Hello Everyone!

I am going to be posting some pics of a D40 that is currently going through a Solid Axle conversion. Don't ask too many technical questions because I may not be able to answer them. Otherwise I'll do my best. Enjoy.

First pic Doesn't really need explanation.... Stripped!

The guys are changing both front and rear diffs. Both new diffs are from a Nissan Patrol. Navara will get disc brakes in the rear as well. Here are some pis of the rear diff getting fitted up.

The housing has arrived, shortly it will be fitted up. Will post more pics as I get them. Can't wait to see how it handles on road. :)

whos doing the build up?? would love to know what they are doing about the abs side of things, its the single most biggest problem with the yanks and sas swaps on exterras/frontiers

if its not all hooked up the transfer doesnt work properly and to the best of my knowledge if you change the tone rings and run ones with a different amount of teeth the computer throws a wobbly

i looked into doing mine, the mechanical work would be really easy on a d40, they have a very sas able chassis layout but it was the electrics that stopped things

there is only 50mm track width difference between a patrol and d40 so with the right offset rims it would be bloody awesome, i was going to use a modified 60 series housing cause they were a bit narrower and the choice of parts is crazy to allow them to be built stronger than a nissan diff

keep up the info, cant wait to see it finished

looking bloody awesome!!!!

cant wait to see some pics of it in action, and get your report on how good it is on the road and most importantly in the bush.

Is that a Bubs front diff housing ?

Since Mark (Mud4b) did all the hard yards on his D22 and Josh.

The D22's look alot easier to do.

Good luck with the build.

Yeah that looks like a Buds customs logo on the diff housing, Monster rides were looking at doing one with Bud, didn't happen for a variety of reasons, one of which being that it is a gigantic pain in the arse to do.
I hope it all goes to plan, i've read a few of the american forums where they have done them and they seem a pain, as turboGU said the computer throws a hissy fit with the ABS/tone ring scenario and if not right won't let the gearbox select 4low, kinda pointless for SAS truck, anyway, i'm sure they did their research before they got stuck in with the grinder!

99.9999% sure its overkill engineering doing the swap.

hey Joshy,

Sure is Overkill.
Just to be clear, its not my car. I'll be keeping an eye on it and if it works out.... we'll see. I might consider going next. They have said that ABS will work. Something about the Patrol having ABS that apparently will be adapted to work on the Navara. Can't wait to see how it ends up. On road handling won't be as good, but should do wonders offroad.

where is the facebook 'like' button ... oh well, will need to subscribe to this thread to keep watching it i guess ...

A D40 with the correct stud pattern.

Any updates ?

Hey Dave,

I'm getting the guys from Overkill to sign up so they can post the pictures themselves and answer any technical questions. That would be the easiest way I think.

Hi guys .
Have had a read through your replies and yes the abs should work as per standard but time will tell..
Beeing the first one we have done it is taking a bit of time as we are running every part of the build past the engineer for his approval..
The rear link setup is all finished all that is left to do is mount the coilovers..
The front is all linked up as well we are just working out all the steering geometry and what steering box works best and yes it is a Buds housing..
Please feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them the best I can
Thanks
Sam
