We've got the
Pioneer F900BT in-dash navigation unit. I am very impressed - supports bluetooth, automatically connects to my phone when I turn the accessories on, has a number of useful features like current speed limit (with audible warning), speed camera warnings, red light warnings, multiple navigation instructions and more.
I put the Nav into reverse and the camera comes on, with a view of my towing hitch at the bottom so it's a piece of cake to line up. At night, the camera switches mode automatically and I can still see clearly.
It connects directly to my iPod and uses that as an audio source, it could just as easily use SD cards. Or it will play movies off SD cards, the iPod or the built-in DVD player (which won't play movies if it figures out that you're driving). I've not tried putting MP3 files onto a DVD and whacking that in to see what happens - no need, the iPod is a 16Gb old thing that we nearly had no more use for - until this unit came along.
As for routing, it's smart and very quick to recalculate. It's a little more chatty than I like, I do prefer the Tom Tom's lack of reminders. However, I have remarked a few times "I'd rather this bint tell me that I'm over the speed limit than some guy in a uniform standing beside the car".
It's 5.8" touch screen is a nice size and it really is easy to see what is on the screen. I've used Garmin, Tom Tom and NavMan - the latter is something I am really not very pleased with, spent $900 to get a unit that "sorry sir, you cannot update the maps, we'll give you a discount on the latest $650 unit and sell it to you for $640". Umm, what, so I can repeatedly hear "Perform a u-turn when possible" for the next 100,000km?
Speakers ... 4 in the doors and 2 subwoofers give me some decent music to enjoy while driving.
The only drawback is the cost of the unit - $1,999 and a further $500-odd for the camera. However, having the unit integrated is really neat - I'm going to take a few pics of my Navara this weekend and will add one of this unit as well. The shots on the site (link in first paragraph) don't do the unit justice.
