Common gearbox issues

The Old boy's D22 has had this issue since brand new! Its been back to Nissan and had the synchros replaced twice. Still the same problem!!
Car now has about 300,000 on the clock (05 Model STR Petrol) and the old man is about to pull it out and rebuild it himself.
Wonder if the Diesel Box bolts up to the Petrol engine? Anyone done this before?

Think they run different ratios?
