air box

Ok just had my Safari snorkel installed today. The guys that installed it informed me that there was sand in the air box. Can someone shed some light how the sand got in there in the first place, i thought it was air tight. Yes i have been doing beach driving and yes i clean engine bay (normal pressure from hose) following day. I have been advised to clean air box after going on the beach from now on, is normal.

Sand gets in anywhere, with a snork airborne sand will get sucked in

Wait till the snorkle is in use your filter will fill with bugs and moths much faster than before.
