just to clarify nathand22, any modifications to the chassis of a vehicle need engineering signatory according to the rta safety check details.
to be perfectly honest a good welder probably does better welds than the factory especially onthe piss weak thin d40 chassis!
btw, gotta love Camden !

One thing we did notice is, my old Thai built D40 had a thiner wall on the chassis compared to the new Spain built,
Yeah mate love old Camden town, went to Camden High back in the day when it was actually in camden, so did my brother and sisters and way back to my old lady.

Spoke to Vic roads and they said no worries. No engineering needed. U online need engineering if u drill holes.Another engineering company has confirmed that too. Much more comfy welding now.

Some one asked what procedure people would use but it got ignored so i'm rasing it again.
Just to get the ball rolling is disconnecting the alternater essential???
What about vertical welds using a MIG welder??
Planning to put my sliders on tomorrow with a mate who knows more then i do.

From what I've read vertical welds are a no no. Make a fish plate <=> shaped like that. Please don't take this as gospel it's just what I've read

It got ignored because I should of explained what it really means...a qualified welder would know ..many specialist work however vital to welding High Strength Steels.

Who in Vic Roads said no worries...the girl at the counter ?

If welding on any vehicle you must disconnect the EARTH on the battery terminal.
Take both the + and the - just to make sure.

Yeh battery should definitely be disconnected if using mig or arc, oxy welding no problem. only welding that needs a earth. Spoke to someone at the modifications and safety department. They said no worries. A engineer confirmed.

Is there any hassle when reconnecting the battery back up? Do you need to reset the ECU or anything? Or does it all just work again when you connect it back up :)

When you reconnect the battery you'll have to put the security code in your radio & she'll be good to go. The ecu will have lost it memory so it will revert back to its standard settings, so take it easy with it & don't go driving like a F1 driver or the ecu will learn to use lots of fuel. You just have to take it easy and relearn your driving habits.

Nice, I thought as much - thanks! :)
