Hi first time on this forum hoping you can help.
Nissan navara d40 diesel auto with manual option (Spain model) is cutting out whilst driving & towing caravan at 90-100klm/hr intermittently. It then takes a while to restart & sometimes cuts out again when put into gear. We have towed our previous van for years with no problems the only difference is our new van is heavier. It is very intermittent recently drove for 4hrs towing van no problems but on return cut out 3 times on highway. No errors are coming up but Mechanic has cleaned throttle valve & replaced suction control valve. Sometimes engine light comes on. We have also recently replaced battery with larger battery as had caravan light problem. Very frustrating & dangerous hope you can help.

When the engine cuts out, is it hot, is there any smoke, does the engine stop completely or does it just drop to idle, or does it simply not rev past 2,000rpm?

Do you have any difficulty starting the car in the mornings?

I had the problem in my Spanish-built 2011 D40 of the engine intermittently cutting out but starting again. It was the earth cable from the engine block which has an intermediate connection a the body panel on its way to the negative battery terminal. Where the intermediate lug was crimped on, the cable had fractured but would still make contact when not going over bumps. The break was not visible but would respond to wriggling the cable to break contact. Nissan does not have replacement cable so did a temporary repair and later made up a better one.
