Mud n Ruts! I'm there!
Hi all, hows it going?

My name is Stef and im a newbie to this forum but iv been into 4 wheelin for quite a while now.
Ok, less crap and more about my car:

Its an 2003 model str navara and iv done a heap of mods to it and heaps more are on the list to do in the next couple of months.
The mods iv done include:

Arb bar front bullbar, sidesteps, brush bars, rear bar
Lightforce spotties, the BIG ones
Diesel gas, PROBABLY THE BEST THING IV DONE
In car tv and sound system
Cb
Bf goodrich mud terrains, a little small now but that'l change

Oh yeah i forgot to mention, the SOLID AXLE SWAP i done about a year ago awesome flex and even better car porn shots when seen in photos.

Now what is on order and on the cards in the next couple of months:

Front and rear diff ratios getting changed
Front and rear arb air lockers including air compressor getting installed
Pop up lightforce spotties actuated with a solanoid from rollbar
Ballbearing turbo and front mount intercooler made to size.

Thats all i can think of for now, car is awesome and as my number plate says, WIKEDD, thats exactly what it is driving my beast.

I work for a builder in melbourne city from mon to fri and try find as much time as i can to go out in the bush when i can with my mates and if im not doing that im deeply into my other hobby which is Chryslers, Valiant Charger in particular which i have a mad passion for and am building probably one of the meanest chargers this side of the hemasphere for quite a while, but lets keep that secret hey.

Cheers guys, hope i can make ,myself usefull on your forum!

Welcome mate, good to have you along.

Nice rig, it'll be interesting to watch your planned mods come to fruition. How bout posting some action shots of the truck as it is now?

Good onya, welcome to the site.

Going by your location your embarresed about living in canberra? Hehe.
Its ok, were all Navara comrades here.

Nah im not from canberra im from melbourne, the west actually. Il upload some photos of my car soon.

Ok soon enough here it is.

Ok now im not the tallest bloke out there prob about 1.8m to 1.9m somewhere with very hairy legs but its just a guide to show how much the car can flex while im standing next to her. And she can flex more.

Thats basically my car, i do have more photos but roughly of the same sort of flexes. I do still need to connect up the front driveshaft and its on order coming from the states. If theres any more interest in the car i can start a thread from what she was like before and then after shots.

Cheers.

Whats a SAS worth to do roughly, doing none of the work myself? Also, i have the same passion for chargers too, my dad is soon to hand me down his 1971 original VH charger with 215 original motor and 4 speed on the floor (was 3 speed column), when i get it i will prolly ask for advice heaps so be warned lol
Love your truck its how i want mine :)
cheers
chris

i take it thats the calmini kit? did u use the jeep wagoneer diff or something else? what size tyres are you going to run?
03 model..lucky you shouldnt have to worry about stretchin the transfer chain.

Nice truck mate and welcome to the forums. Question, does that SAS kit bolt in on the existing mounts etc??

Cheers Brad

Cheers guys thanks for all the warm welcomes,

Ok the SAS kit is from calmini and to go from start to finish your looking at around 10 to 15 grand end result if someone installs it. But in saying that the diff is a jeep wagoneer dana44 diff and i couldnt find one for under 2 grand for starters but then after heaps of looking i came across one for $700 looked worse for wear but it is 40 odd years old.

Then when the kit was getting installed, i had incurred some costs which were unexpected like overhauling both brake calipers and rebuilding em, disc machining, brake pads obviously, all 12 new wheel studs and nuts and a pricey item was the steerind link arm $700 just for that link.

Ok so all went on good then the sunraisers i had which did have a slight offset were hitting the tie rod ends so i had to buy 5 new sunny's with a wider offset, another cost unexpected.

The tyres im running are bf goodrich 265/75/16 32 or 32.5 inches, they look tiny on the car but not getting a bigger set till they wear out, believe it or not they still rub the inside of the front guard when turning into my driveway. Il be fixing that when a body lift comes along and a bit of customising of the wheel arches. It pays to know a good panel beater.

This kit does look extremly solid and is very easy to install and everything does bolt straight up, just a few minor spacers and washers were used for specific clearances such as for the bash plate which is thick and awesome,

and between the top mount of the shock. We did have to bend the panard rod because its an american kit and there ones come down from there drivers side were as ours are on the other side and then coming down onto the diff it was hitting the diff housing, you can see it in my previous pics its the little bit of blue bar with black spray paint on it.
Also now i have to change the rear gear ratio to suit the front ratio which i have to buy which also adds up, hence why i am going to install front and rear lockers while the diffs are popped open.

What problems do they have with stretching chains?

This ones for you fatman

She is not an original rt and although i have restored her once before she is in pieces again and im bringing her back to an original white 770 auto.
As for the other charger im building, its a secret till she is revealed here is a sneak peak....

basically the only thing that will be old on the car is the shell, get my drift!

Cheers, have a good day.

models after 03 have a narrower chain in the transfer which is prone to stretching with decent wheeling. i did 2 in 6 months. Why dont you extend your bumpstops instead of getting a body lift? giving you more down travel then up travel? if youve already got an 8inch lift itll be pretty high already..

I dont have that much upward travel, about 2 inches roughly but if thats too much let me know il extend the bump stops.

These are the tyres im currently using, i cant see myself fitting 35's under there without it ripping the sh*t out of the guard.

measure your bumpstop height at drive height then flex it up as much as you can and take the measurement to see just how much your getting.
