How badly cooked is it? Just a cracked head, or did you drop a piston?

Replacement engines seem to be around $7K on eBay:

BUT if it's just a head, you could get a cylinder head (complete with gaskets and new head bolts) for $1200:

You might consider doing timing chains etc as well, get them inspected while it's apart and consider it a possibility?

YD25.com do replacement exchange engines with dual row timing chains for what you would pay for a second hand motor. I paid $8.4 and got 1300 back after sending the motor back to them. It's a bit of a process as you need to send them your timing cover with bolts and fuel pump as per their diagram. However as Old Tony said if it is just the head then replace that for a fraction of the cost.

No compression, Lost all water and cooked is what im told. been quoted 10 and 13 thousand for replacement engine.
Going to cut my losses.
its sitting at mechanics in Goulburn NSW, will try to get wrecker local wrecker to take it off my hands, cost too much to have towed to my location and i have nowhere to store while wrecking myself.
Has good wheels and wildpeak tyres, new timing chain and turbo, lots of parts have been replaced over the course of me owning it, generally good nik apart from the cooked engine.
Anyone interested, let me know.
Cheers.

Cracking the head will do that. New replacement heads are around $1300 on eBay (and they work). But you would have to retrieve it, and put it with a repairer, so maybe the wrecker is the better call for you.

Hope your next car - whatever it is - offers you less drama.
