Hi all
I am doing a trip up to the cape in sept towing a camper trailer and will need to buy new tyres, at present I have geolanders 265/65/17 on not sure whether to stay with geolanders or maxxis 908 AT in that size or go to 265/70/17 big horns, any comments would be appreciated? Would like a little extra height but would it justified the any heavier fuel usage ect...?
Cheers

Hi mate I have 265/70/17 Bighorns on mine currently only done 8000k on them but wearing evenly and I get around 9.5L per 100.

Thanks mate? What were they worth if you don't mind me asking, I was quoted about $290 a tyre also told that they weren't making the 762's anymore

I bought the 762s fitted for $289 a tyre I had mates with the newer shape 764s not enjoying them. That was in December I think they are a much better tread pattern mate

Can anyone recommend a good tyre in a 265/65/17 or 265/70/17 as I'm not sure if I want to go MT as the most 70-80% of my driving is on bitumen and only want to spend about $270 - $300 a tyre, I have aprox 30% left on the geo's (cost $325 a tyre) so want to put new shoes on before trip.
Cheers Lyle

Ok I decided to go with 265/70/17 general grabbers at2, got a pretty good deal, 5 new tyres - traded my 265/65/17 spare in and W/A $1250 fitted, should get fitted next week.

I have not long ago changed from Bighorn in 265-70-17 on stock rims, they were great, I got 76,000km of mixed driving, no punctures, great off road, noisy on road, they will use 0.9 to 1.1 lt per 100km more fuel than stock, but are worth it off road, they are fantastic.

I replaced them with some Hankook AT's in 265-65-17, as I am now doing 220km per day on the highway, much nicer, uses less fuel, much less noise and still good off road, I have had them dirty a few times now, towing a 7x4 box trailer and ute back both fully loaded with iron bark fire wood, clay, rock etc, did it easy everywhere. very happy with the hankooks, done about 15,000km, all perfect so far.

Cost me $205 per fitted.

I would love a second set of rims so I could have some Bighorns for shooting trips etc, but funds dont allow at the moment.

Mate that's a good price. I paid $320 a tyre for 266/65/17 geolanders 37000km ago still about 50% tread on them but wanted a new set and go a tad higher for my trip to the cape in sept, when I was pricing the cheapest for 265/65/17 was $249 falken, $280 for Bridgestone LT 697 on specials. Or maxxis 980 $280, 265/70/17= Bridgestone LT 967 $340, maxxis 771 $235, falken LT $309. General grabbers LT $250, hankook LT $289.
