New to this forum and have the following problems on my Navara. Its a 2004 zd30 with 165K.

After a routine service at my local mechanic who only changed the oil, filter and fuel filter the following occurred about 100 kms later.

A high frequency noise which I initially thought was a police or ambulance behind me. The car started to splutter and making a loud rattle/knocking noise. The car also had a Steinbauer chip installed 5 months ago.

I took the car to a diesel specialist who put it on the dyno. The max power produced was 46.3 kw.

He also said that the injectors needed replacing (which he did) and he also said a bolt on the turbo backplate was loose, which he retentioned.

I got the car back and to my suprise the two noises are exactly the same. I called him and informed that I'll take the car back to him.

Apparently the turbo needs replacing (low boost), but I wont be doing anything before he fixes these two noises.

Any advice on what these noises could be?

Mate, how many km's on your rig? Is it blowing any smoke at all? Does sound turbo related to me and not at all good!

The high frequency pitch would be a boost leak or leaky EGR.

Check the turbo hoses on the intake. What condition are they in ?

If they show up fine, send me a PM with your details and Ill send you some blanking plates for the EGR.

Le us know how you go.

Mechanic installed an EGR plate. There is still low boost, a maximum of just over 11. He said that he checked all the hoses and they were fine.
He is sure that the high pitched noise is the turbo and the low boost is caused by the turbo backplate becomming loose and damaging the compressor wheel.

where was the plate installed?

if it exhaust leak then it should be a bit more noticeable since egr is blocked and would change instantly with throttle change.
otherwise i would suspect turbo has gone.

don't forget to check for the little silly things like pre cleaner or inlet pipes partly blocked by something.

while your waiting for the turbo to be looked at, get an oil test done. look to see how much diesel there is in the fuel.
the fuel connections under the rocker cover sometimes leak, especially when the primer is used as part of the fuel filter change.

Plate installed was the EGR/Inlet manifold. I noticed that the plumbing from the solonoids have not been rearranged. The car is now shuddering on shut down. I assume that the hoses need to be rearranged and this will stop the shuddering? Is that all I need to do?

Sorry was trying to find a pic.

Anyway its a flat that shuts the air off to the motor and shuts the engine down.
