Hey guys

When i have the clutch fully in and shift into first gear whilst stationary occasional it grinds like im not holding n the clutch...? Lately its has been doing it more and more often... Any idea what it is? Gear box going? Its a 2005 D22 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance

Luke.

If the car doesn't shudder when you do it, I'd say it's a failing first gear synchro. Not the worst that could happen.

Where's the friction point as you're releasing the clutch pedal? Is it about halfway up the pedal's travel, or near the end of the travel?

There's a chance that the pressure plate/clutch has a wear issue and despite being disengaged, the clutch is still allowing the engine to spin the gearbox over. It may be a thrust bearing or lifter too, or even just a simple cable adjustment.

It sounds like the friction plate is still getting a little bit of drive from the flywheel or the pressure plate through not enough release throw or something else. I had an 80 series cruiser with the same problem that turned out to be the grease on the input shaft spline being gummed up with friction plate dust. Replace clutch and cleaned and relubricated the splines and problem was solved.

Greg

Your guess you be as good as mine tony. I have only owned it for about 4 or 5 months. Its due for a service now anyway so ill have to book it in and bring it to the mechanics attention.

Ok took it to a "gearbox specialist" and he had no f*#king idea so i just got him to change the gearbox oil and so far so good... Alot smoother change of gears aswell. Thanx everyone for the help.
