Hi guys, only made an account to share this with you.
The famous d40 instrument cluster issue, rev counter drops out, abs light, tcs light, 4wd light, no indicator tell tail lights, wipers inop, cluster does this issues then comes back to normal then repeats the above. Can also be linked to auto climate control when you turn on & off the blower the cluster plays up.

Go down to the o/s/f drivers footwell kick panel trim (lower a pillar by floor carpet & throttle pedal), remove the trims and your see two big block connectors, they’re probably filled with water and the pins are corroded. Some clean up fine but others your need to cut back the wires and bypass the plug unless you want to buy a new loom. Hopefully this helps people. Cheers guys 👍.

Another little tip, if you have the issue where you start your d40 up & it cuts out / doesn’t idle for long but runs fine in the engine warm up switch, try unplug the cam sensor at the rear of the cylinder head, if it runs fine with the plug off then you most likely need new upper & lower timing chain kits as they’re stretched / worn.

Hopefully this helps some mechanics out 👊🏻

is this the same as my dash randomly cutting out and going dead? it comes back on randomly but when it goes out the indicators dont work and dash is blacked out no lights at all? and recently my radio just started to mute itself on an off >_<

Thanks for the info Bigpapi.

Dimplex, this could be your problem, or yours could be a bad earth. The fix for a bad earth will not do any damage to anything so give it a try: attach a wire from the stereo case to one of the dashboard's mounting bolts.
