Specifically, grab the top and bottom of the wheel and give it a wobble, any movement and you'll either need to replace, repack or at least tighten the bearings. Dunno how to do it in a d40, the hub assembly is very different to the d22.

If you grab the sides of the wheel, any movement you detect may just be play in the steering.

d40 hubs are a fully sealed unit brah, you cant just "regrease and pack them", if you want to check do the first part of what he said jack it up turn the wheel/ rock it backwards and forwards youll know if its blown is sounds horrible.

now because its a fuly sealed unit and you cant buy bearings you need a whole new hub assembly, if you need them straight away repco do them for about $280 each side (overpricd i know) you can do through nissan who are double that. otherwise there are a couple other companies that do them for about $180 each side. just google the or use the search funtion on this website as this has already been covered a couple times.

youll also need a 32mm socket and a breaker bar depending on how tight yours is put on, may be able to use a shifter but if its on to tight you will need a socket as it just falls off.

replacement takes about 20min once you know what your doing.
