Reverse camera install

Hey I just bought myself a reverse camera off eBay. I know their are heaps of post about this topic but can't seem to find a direct answer. I have a pioneer headunit so the rca will run back to that. To power the camera should I tap off the reverse lights or have people tapped in somewhere else? Also do I need to wire anything from the headunit so it switches over when reverse is selected?

I powered the camera direct from the reverse light ( took a feed to drive the reversing lights relay for the new LED reversing lights ) and then ran a feed to the head deck from there to activate the rear view

If you power it from the reverse light and connect it to the reversing camera input (I think that's assigned in one of the system menus) then when you select reverse, the lights come on , the camera is activated and the head unit automatically switches to the camera view.

Mine is powered by the reversing lights in just that fashion, Pioneer F910BT.
