Hi welcome to the forum.. here is a story for your mates,
My brother in law has a 200 series cruiser - $80k+, with a 100mm lift kit.
Well he drove thru knee deep water in his flash piece of shit.
The water sucked up into the engine ... $13k rebuild later... nothing but misfires and oil leaks.

Toyota said to him their warranty covers manufacturing faults not "design" faults(air intake down in the front guard)
He now has a snorkel and a very expensive piece of shit.

Now i know that my navara has it's air intake down in the guard as well - but is is not sold as a "ducks nuts" 4X4 - and it did not cost 80k.

He says his car is now 12 months old but he has only driven it for 5 months.

Toyota - bastards...

thats an interesting story, he must of been going fast through that puddle to get the water into the guard...

i had water up to the bonnet in my nav with no snorkel and it was fine...thats because it was done slow to allow a bow wave to form, not just gunning it through. not going to do it again, but i had to at the time.

pretty sure fording depth in the manual is only 30cm also according to the manual, short knees ay?

No he was stopped in a fresh water creek to wash his boat down - he had done the same thing in a previous nav with no dramas.

weird, very weird... how did the water get in though? if the intake much much much lower then the nav guard intake?

This is how you get water sucked up through the inlet in the guard in a nav.

Next shot is me stranded in the middle of the puddle.

WAY too fast!!

I was very lucky, the hoses were pulled off and the water blown out. No problems and the rest of the trip was enjoyed.
