The code in the ECU will help, if it's an actual error and not just caused by an intermittent connection (dirty battery terminal, cracked fusible link etc). There are 3 ways to read the codes: 1) Pedal dance. See this post for details. 2) Get it to a mechanic and have them read the code. Could cost $$. 3) Buy a bluetooth ELM327 OBD2 adapter and use an app on your phone (I use Android's Torque). Should cost less than $20 and it's yours forever.
