Day trips around Newcastle/Maitland

Hey all,

Just wondering If anyone knows of really good day trips around the Newy / Maitland area that is not Stockton / Barrington or Watagans. Would love to explore an area that has good driving (offroad but not too extreme), bit of history and less of a crowd. I know of Chicester (sp??) state forest near Dungog, but have not been up that way yet.

Any info anyone can give is greatly appreciated.

We head out to Seaham pretty often.

I should also add that I have been 4wding out at Gloughster tops a fair bit.

I know the people who own the caravan park.
