I've been looking in to lowering my exhaust gas temps recently and only just realized that the aftermarket exhaust I've had on for years was stopping the wastegate from opening more than a couple of mm. The flange on the dump pipe is a lot wider than the gasket so as the wastegate swings out it hits. I've been grinding the flange back so it opens more but because of the design it still won't fully open unless I do some cut and shutting on the dump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RRFf_aBNEw

If you've got an aftermarket exhaust i'd recommend checking how much it opens by disconnecting the wastegate actuator like in the vid.

if the boost isn't increasing uncontrollable (or big spike) then its fine.
i doubt it would have to open much drop the drive pressure.

It doesn't spike but at 20psi and more fuelling egts keep climbing so i'm trying to keep them reasonable.

you don't have a waste gate problem.

fueling, air temps, turbo efficiency or simply the amount of air volume going through.
start looking at AFR's.

AFRs are o.k, it's mostly likely turbine housing a/r but the wastegate not opening enough won't help with EMP. Just trying to get the best out of what I've got otherwise it will be upgrade time.
