no just for looks, but i did find the wires run up to the connector at the back of the head unit, so when i get around to it and put in a new HU it will just be a matter of plug and play.

I noticed the diffrence in retaining springs too my late 08 to the new wheel not sure on the year .I was hoping to do a straight swap with mine but ended up stripping the buttons and fitting the to mine.those illuminated buttons do look good.
