The TD42 is a piece of shit anyway.

If you were gonna revert to a older motor, you'd go the QD32ETI.

Has he showed you the broken chain ?

is the QD32ETI better then the zd30?i relize that every engine will have some ups and downs compared to the others but is there a engine that is a clear step above the zd30 that is about the same price to put in?
yea he showed it to me,absolutly clean snap,no polishing or anything like you would get if it had be bouncing around before it snapped

They're a very strong motor, they make 110kw and 320Nm of torque from memory.

I doubt you'd get it through emission's though as the ZD30 replaced them.

They came in JDM R50 Pathfinders, Terrano's, Nissan Elgrands etc. Australia only got the QD32 with the mechanical fuel pump and non turbo.

Ask a importer, they'll be able to get you one.

Dropping another ZD30 in will be the cheapest option.

There are a couple of guys on www.patrol4x4.com who have replaced there Di motors with the ZD30 CRD. Engine mounts are the same I am let to believe, you'll need a D22 ZD30 clutch and the D22 sump.

The CRD controls the turbo well on these motors.

can i get some thoughts on this engine??
it isnt a rebuild, has 147000ks on it.my main worrry is i want the engine i put in to last a while,is 147000 getting high for zd30s?cheers

I would go for it!! Free freight and a good warranty and its a full long motor inc turbo, i reckon it a good deal.

I dont think that is allot of km's at all, as most people on here are aware and are prob sick of reading it, BUT i had one that had well over double those km's and was sweet.
Put an intercooler on it just incase the turbo let go and it will be fine.
The other bonus is you will have a spare turbo and a few other bits as spare.

Just a quick update, did ALOT of shopping for the right engine but there was nothing with less then 100k unless it was treated like shit or a mines viechel or something.ended up going with the engine on the above link with 147k on it and all bolt ons minus alternator, starter moter and air compressor whih is all fine on myh old one so ill just transplant.in the pictures it was extreamly clean well looked after engine and i also called the guy at paradise auto in SA and he gave me some more info they got from the insurance mob,he said it had only ever been used as a daily driver around town and the car itself was absolutly ammaculate inside and out (bar the crash zone lol) and from the pics id say that the engine was the same, only sign that it wasnt brand new was the exhaust, that shit always rusts anyways.
will be leaveing the turbo that come with thie engine on as it is genuine and ill either sell or keep as a spare my ebay one.so the engine arrives tuesday and should be sorted and on the road by friday.FREE POSTAGE from SA to Townsville!!!
the only thing im worried about is the chip, have heard that even going into the same engine on another car it can go haywire, the guys putting the engine in are a dyno place aswell and he suggested to run it without the chip for a while then put it back in just to make sure the engines all good first.
queston to you guys do i need to program the chip or something when i put it back in?? i dont have a clue what brand it is.was in the ute when i got it.
will be putting an intercooler on it asap purely for protection and doing everything i can to make it last as long as i can.
was planing to go to the cape in sep or oct but this has put a BIG dent in that plan, but i really want to go before i move back to NSW so ill see.

also so i dont have to start a new thread could someone tell me roughly how much ARB brushbars/side steps worth?? i want to take mine off and get some off SBs sliders, need to get as much for them as i can to minimize the price,my banks not in a good mood with the engine right now hahaha.they are in great condition and will be polishing up the checker plate so it looks like new.there for a single cab.
cheers

As for sliders we made them for mine. cost 100. ARB is around 1100.

Pipe bender and 3mm thick 2 inch water pipe.

Not sure on the chip, could just purchase another chip? say chipit, mine seems to be doing very well with plenty of adjustment.
Have you got a compression test done with the new engine?

Also before you decide on the turbo option, check the original, it may be stuffed. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the ebay turbo on mine, besides sounding different to the original...

id love to make them myself though i cant weld to the point were id be confortable sliding on them, still only learning to weld/teach myself lol.

im really keen on the chip it chip but there a few grand arnt they??if theres an issue with the old one ill just have to get a new one.ill be checking what brand the chip is though as im running a good 300+kg steel tray,32x11.5" bighorns and the only thing it has peformance wise bar the chip is ive done the 80 series airbox.with all that im getting 11ltrs per 100km.

yea it will be pretty much whichever is in better nick for the turbos, ive had no issue with the ebay one bar the washers haha so that will stay if its in better condition.when you say sounds different in what way? i couldnt really decide with mine i think it sounds different but just cant pinpoint it exactly.

yea they said theyd tested it but i might get my mechanic gto do one aswell, are they expencive??do they have to pull parts off the engine to do it?

Chipit chips are 1200 posted including digital EGT monitor/cut off. can go for 915 posted minus EGT guage but its a must when chip.
Mine turbo screams haha, up at 18psi. No boost leaks and no shaft play. Im just putting it down to different inlet comp wheel design from standard.

Comp tests on petrols is just done by taking out the spark plugs. Diesels would be.... glow plugs? not sure someone will clear this up. Petrol are Piss easy to do and nothing major needs to come out......diesels may be different.

Mine also runs a full custom steel tray and 31x10.5. But it can still move.

Might be pushing turbo a bit to hard... but mehhh i'll just get the original rebuilt after..

hmmm might have to get one.
haha, yea mine is deffently alot louder than the stock one.
yea i knew petrol, just got no idea about diesel....
how are you on fuel per hundred, from looking at other threads 11ltrs per 100ks is pretty good...
haha guess youll find out soon

haha yer there a loud turbo!

um, i get on average (before chip) about 10.5/100. Best ive got is 10/100 highway. With chip.... i haven't had a good measure as i kept having to disconnect my battery to tweek some things on the car, so speedo reset.

But from memory with the current tank..if i can get another 20km before light goes on... it will be around the 590-600km/62-63 liters.
so around the 10.5.

Also thats with tyres at 38psi and 36psi cold.

11 litres is fine considering you have larger tyres than me. The steel tray do add some weight though hey! i remember when i was grinding back the rust and had the tray off. Took it for a spin standard and it was a weapon haha. Cant imagine doing the same with the chip on it!

Yep!!
yea im happy with 11,with my 120ltr long range i get over 1000ks which is good for hunting trips.will be intresting if i can drop it with intercooler and exhaust, and maybe the chipit chip.if i got to 10 id be stoked as they sit at 9.6 stock from what ive read.
the tray adds heaps!!!plus i got a dog box which is another 50 odd.haha i did the same when i took my tray off to repaint it,was crazy!!

soooooo,
FINALLY got the ute back :) seems to be a great buy so far.really good condition from what can be seen without pulling it apart.only time will tell though.
a few things have come to the surface from swapping the engine, first being that i dont think i actually have a chip:pissedoff: they couldnt see one and they didnt unplug 1 so yeaaa.atleast it gives me an excuse to get a chip it chip :)
also my HD exedy clutch is very badly worn after only 2 and a half months,i dont know what the go is but id say the mechanic put a used 1 in :pissedoff: i dont know how bad it is,its not completely gone but they said the one that was in the new engine was way better so they used that.

and since i got it home its started leaking from the rear main seal, they didnt replace it because it "looked perfect" so ive put some stop leak in it as hopefully its just a bit hard as its been sitting without oil for a while.ill be replaceing it myself if it needs it as im not paying another 600 labour for something they should have done when they put the engine in.

All in all it cost me $6800
$4500 engine- with 147k and in great condition and almost new clutch
$1400 labour-radiator flushed and repaired, thermostat, swapped required components to new engine, installed new parts ie heater hoses and new engine in.
$900 parts-radiator and heater hoses
fan belt
clutch spring retainer
thermostat
oil-delvac m x 15w40/oil filter
hose clamps
coolant

All up im happy i got out of it for 6800 as i think thats reasonable cosidering i also needed diesel pump aswell
As for the mechanic,he was very helpfull and was trying to keep the cost down as much as possible.i know he could of got alot more coin from me if he wanted.the only issue i had was there receptionest really needs to sort out her communication skills, was told multiple times as to when it would be ready and wasnt right till the 3rd time and she had no idea what was going on with it as she didnt communicate with the mechanics and not once did she call me,even on the days she told me it would be ready,i had to call them every time.
that being said i have to say they are by FAR the best mechanic ive used in townsville and would deffently go back to them again.
so all up deffently reccomend aitkenvale auto and dyno.

after the whole thing ive had enough trusting my ute with someone else, from now on ill do everything, even engine replacement and clutches which i used to be a little shy off, only thing ill get a mechanic to do is specialist stuff so to speak ie injectors.this isnt due to the mechanic i used this time, more so the last few and just the fact i HATE trusting others working on my pride and joy

Good to see you're back on the road mate. Personally I'd go back and ask WTF is with the rear main seal, especially if you asked about it ??
But that's just me.
