Thanks, guys i am from TRINIDAD.
What is the benefit of unpluging the swirl valve?
I drove 100km highway driving after doing the mod. I have not seen much difference, if any it might be sounding a tad more nosiy. No rough shut down though.

you have blocked off egr ?
if so its not a big difference as the egr works mostly at part throttle, especially at cruise. its not going to make any difference what so ever at full throttle.

Yep i blocked off the EGR. So is my mod complete or do i have to rearrange any lines? So what is the benefit of unpluging the swirl valve.

Thanks.

no need to rearrange the lines.
unplugging the swirl valve lets a bit more air into the engine. you get a small improvement at low rpm.

EGR Ive done it

Finally got around to blanking the EGR yesterday, I could only get the blanking plate into the space so used gasket goo on the turbo side and bolted it up.
I changed all the vac pipes around and took it for a drive this morning and couldnt believe the difference, much more pulling power low down and seemed to run smoother. On shut down there is more of a shudder than normal so I unplugged the swirl valve and this seemed to improve a bit but is still there, ( I dont think I'm imagining this) so is this a concern. I also had trouble getting a tight fit on the small curved vacuum hose the goes to the bottom of the green solenoid so could this account for the shudder.
All in all I think the improvement is great.

I would like to add to my above post re the rough shut down. I went back and re-read Tweak's posts about this subject and on inspecting my mod all the vacuum tubes were correct and as he was talking about the shut down solenoid i particularly looked at this area. I found that when swapping around the vacuum tubes and as they are so hard to remove they tend to get stretched, so if when you do this mod they dont fit on as tight as they were this will cause the shut down problem.
Im sorry if this was mentioned before but I couldnt find any reference to this tube stretching so thought it may help anyone else giving it a go.
Mines all fixed and running like a dream, just inerested to see what happens to fuel consumption.

good to know about the pipes stretching.
i normally twist the rubber pipes first (gently! )to break the seal, then they slide off easily.

Tweaks
I twisted them off as well however a couple were really tight and in twisting them it appeared that the rubber stretched and the hole diameter increased and so when it all went back together the fitting was a bit loose, and while it all looked correct it was enough for the seal not to work and so rough shut down.

Did you have to replace hoses if they stretch? And when swapping hoses around do you have to apply some sort of sealant to tee before pushing hose on.

Hi i have just been reading this thread and was wondering what this mod does exactly i have no idea? cheers

This mod blocks off the pipe the vents exhaust back into the intake. The car will do this from factory to help reduce emissions. By blocking it off you will reduce carbon build up in the inlet manifold. Carbon from the egr and oil from blow-by added together make for a sticky goo in the inlet pipes.

Someone else may have a better answer for you than me.

When i did mine i found that the outside diamiter was a little different on the 'T' pieces than on the solinoides. So if you turn the hoses around they may fit better.

Is there a different one for the 2.5l d22 2012 or is there some where I can order one in Brisbane ? Ebay ?

Great thread mate super helpfull with the pdf picture i will be trying this soon as well as my custom top mount intercooler sett up cheers

hi guys

going to do this on the weekend

i need a blanking plate and 2 T pieces for the vacuum lines?

is that right?

(i know its all covered just checking)

thanks

Hi all, just wanting to give tweak'e a shout out for this thread, i have seen a few different onesbut none anywhere near as helpful, and the working diagrams are simple to interpret. Having now done the mod i am extremely happy with the results, better take off and more rapid response, the main thing i noticed was a louder turbo whistle ( have 3" mandrel system with high flow muff) so louder than stock already. Having read that it can help the turbo spool quicker is such a high pitch whistle normal? Also does length of the air lines determine outcome? I know longer lines takes more time for air to travel etc

your using more air and have full push on the turbo so its running at higher rpm and will make more noise.
just make sure you have a good clean air filter. i find the turbo makes more noise when the air filter is getting blocked up. as blocking egr/butterfly mod does make the engine use more air, the air filter will get blocked up quicker.

Thanks i thought that would be the case, snorkel with the dual stage cleaner etc is the current setup so i like to think i am getting cleaner air than non snorkel, next up water to air intercooler

Has anyone had many problems with loosening the two 12mm bolts holding the EGR inlet to the manifold on? I for the life of me just cant loosen them with a little 12mm spanner, I am at the point of burring the edges of the bolts and I dont want to accidentally twist off the heads on the bolts.

Do these bolts seize up often? I seem to remember one person on here twisting off the top of the bolts and he has to unscrew them somehow with some sort of specialised tool.

Hey,

Sorry at work atm so don't have time to go through all the threads, come someone please explain the benefit of this mod is?

With thanks
