Hi everyone has any body ON this site had yd25 go bang mine is a jap built d22 with 75k on the clock and i have noticed when the car is cold it is making a loud sort of tapping knocking sound from the left hand side of the motor goes away after a while but still concernd about the issue

Its not the injectors it sounds like a really noisy tappet or a big end the noise doesnt carry on threw the rev range thoe only noticble on idel and cold starts

Mine did the same, changed the oil and it went away, use some descent stuff like castrol not the nissan shit.

as far as i'm aware the "nissan shit" is castrol. quite a few people on here have mentioned having castrol oil used in nissan services.

in saying that, you can get different oil that will be cheaper than nissan. what oil filter have you got on it? if it hasn't got an anti drain back valve built in it might be draining the filter overnight. if that's the case the rattle could be happening while the motor is building oil pressure again. can you post a video of it or is the sound not clear enough?

Well to me in my experice it sounds like a big end noise but very quite and its not constant i would post a vid but the car is getting a 3" on it atm its prob just a sticky lifter and the noise came in monday morning when i started it

Nah mate its Mobil, well thats what they told me was in the bottle at Nissan, but when i put castrol in my Nav that i bought not from a dealer it made the engine 100% quieter and got rid of att my f@$ked up noises.

yeah maybe, it probably depends what dealer as to what oil they use. half of them don't even know "common problems" so i wouldn't expect them to know what is in the bottles of oil they sell, lol.

is it coming up for an oil change? if it is you could try running some oil flush through it too and see of that helps with the new oil

It just had its oil change yesterday but it didnt get rid of the noise i sprayed some cooking spray on the belts on sunday to get rid of the squick do u think that could be a issue

seriously man, i think the best thing you can do is try to get a video or at least an audio recording of it. either that or unless some forum people are close to you, the only other option is to take it to a mechanic. i wouldn't take it to nissan tho, a specialist diesel mechanic would be a lot better

It's the standard belts mate, I just changed my for a new set of Bosch belts and it fixed the exact problem you have. The standard belts become really hard and they pull on the pulleys to much when cold, when they heat up up they can stretch. This will work, I found out the problem on a euro Nissan site where the yd25 np300 was having this problem.
