Hello all, I had the EGR code come up on my rig. I scanned with my basic scanner and it came up with the EGR failure. I cleared the code and sent it to the local Nissan dealer to confirm the issue before I bought another valve. The confirmed my diagnosis and quotes me a replacement. Ouch we wont go there. They also said you need an ECU update. Have I cleared an update by accident and is it a necessity to update the ECU. I have since replaced the EGR myself and fixed the problem with no engine light coming on. Should I still get the update done ($150).
Cheers Grae.

The $150 is a charge to reset the fault code.

Not good value for money, but somebody has to pay for the shiny showroom.

The update might contain new fuel mapping or fix an error in the code that handles events.

It's up to you. If you've had your ECU remapped externally, you'll lose that in the update, but you might also find that the update improves things in the car (and seriously, why would they update the software if it wasn't going to make the car at least a little better?).

From the Nissan training manual, the ECU update is a valve position learning.....
