How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

So… after a few false starts with workshops that seemed disinterested I finally found a mechanic, recommended by a work colleague. Turbo inspected, bearings good, blades good, no oil leaking, slightly less sharp on the front edges, hence a slightly different sound (which is what I had noticed)...

The old silver D22 touring ute.

Boogieboots, I sat in the passenger side of mine the other day while doing the heater fan/resistor and really noticed the difference. The seat hack has worked pretty well and keeps the ‘agricultural’ ambience. lol. Green foam is a bit hard though, (had it left over from another project) the...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Basically and in principle I agree, certainly just looking for reliability not increased performance. I fairly sure a bigger exhaust should do no harm, will keep the exhaust gasses a tad cooler, maybe improve fuel consumption a tiny bit but most of all just let the old girl breath a bit better...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Yeah the intercooler has been a consideration only, doubtful I’ll bother. Was a purely a thought to keep bits of broken turbo out of the engine should it have a conniption! Seems a whole lot more sensible to keep an ear out for a failing turbo, now I know what I’m listening for, thats all thats...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

I’ve considered an intercooler, front mount seems the way to go but not sure it will fit without removing the aircon unit. I guess with a top mount I could get another bonnet with the slot in it. easy enough. mmm. I’ll start with getting turbo swapped out for a new one and a fatter exhaust. I’m...

The old silver D22 touring ute.

I’ve thought the same regarding $60k vs $6k. Seems like an easy choice. More than happy to spend some dollars to keep it going, especially seeing as I inherited it rather than bought it. The cabin in mine is ‘agricultural’ to say the least. Bench seat is a shocker when it starts to sag, kills...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Hi nuthanav, thats all good to hear. It was serviced every 10000 from it’s birth to about the end of 2013, I ignored it a bit and missed a service ( still had an oil change or two though) when I first got it from the old man but was only doing slow easy commutes to job sites around town. bit...

The old silver D22 touring ute.

386000 plus kms, well serviced and I drive it like an old man. Cruise control install was a good idea, did a trip to Perth a few years ago, got it too 2500rpm in fifth and pressed the cruise button. Smooth sailing all the way. Bloody annoying for others though lol. No major issues….so far…touch...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Cheers Horatius. I agree with your doubts about later model utes. Figuring that keeping it going is currently cheaper than starting again, given the current prices secondhand and new.

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Reading through some D22 ZD30 posts and it sounds like doing the injector pump might also be a good idea!. Is there any way to test it?

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Hi all. I’m looking for some clues on what to do to keep my 2006 d22 ZD30 single cab going strong. It’s been super reliable for 386000kms, lots of long distance touring on dirt and corrugations, never missed a beat. I drive it very conservatively, serviced every 10000 and now every 5000 for the...

Hello , cheers for the add.🙂

My sled is an old 2006 D22 single cab with a 3litre ZD30 engine and a very useful ‘lowline’ extra height canopy with gullwing doors. It’s been super reliable. Been in the family since new, I’ve been driving it for the last 6/7 years. It’s been all over the country and I used it as a trade ute...
