    D40 odd noise

Thanks for all the replies. Between this issue, the clutch, an oil leak and now some intermittent starting problem, I've decided to trade the Navara in on a run out PC Challenger. Pick it up next weekend. 210,000 reliable kms, but the issues are stating to pile up now. 5 years warranty and the...

    D40 odd noise

Alright, so I've got a (bad) video of the noise. You can hear it right at the end of the clip. It's getting more and more frequent so I've gotta do something about it soon. http://youtu.be/5-9i60GPryU

    D40 odd noise

Thanks for the detailed info Tony. Took some of the heat shields from around the turbo off to have a better look. Definitely oil from the bottom of the silver section. Sounds like you've had your turbo serviced - what's involved? Do I need to cut out a kidney?

    D40 odd noise

Thanks tony. After a bit more playing around in the shed, I can replicate the noise by revving the engine up to 2000ish and letting it fall back to idle. It squeals just before getting down to idle. I had a bit of a look from underneath and it looks like the rear of the turbo is a bit black...

    D40 odd noise

Hi all, I know this isn't much to go on, but thought I'd see if anyone can help. My D40 has started making an odd noise in the last couple of weeks. The best I can describe it as is similar to the noise a power saw makes as you cut timber. It seems to be a bit intermittent and sometimes...

Should I do the timing chain or not

A timing chain isnt supposed to be a serviceable item. A timing belt is. Most people should never need to touch them.

    bad fuel economy

Does it blow any smoke? I had a dud injector that was pushing my fuel economy up. Once they were replaced it improved by about 2l/100km. Getting rid of the Bighorns for BFG ATs didn't really make much difference to economy (it improved comfort though!). I get about 10L/100km when cruising at...

    Fuel consumption play up

Yeah, it has just been reset, so is 're-learning'. The average fuel consumption calculation has less data to calculate your average now that it has been reset, so it's easier to get it to change at the moment. As you drive more and more you'll find that it settles down. I don't know if you...

    Are bull bar miss legal?

They will be soon, in NSW at least. There's currently a 2 year exemption on non compliant bullbars, which expires Sept 2016. Anyone with a non complaint bar after that date can probably expect close scrutiny from the fuzz.

    Metallic jingling noise

What's rain? :hmmmm2: On the way home the other day we drove by a property that was a dust bowl as far as the eye could see. Looked like the owners had given up and moved on. A lot of cockys up here are just in survival mode, hoping for things to turn around (and some are mustering goats in the...

    Metallic jingling noise

Thanks for the replies. Just thought I'd update the thread as I found the source of the noise. Excuse the non-technical terms, but it turned out that the bolt at the top of one of the U shaped brackets around the leaf suspension on the rear had come a little loose. That bolt has a metal shield...

    Metallic jingling noise

Hi all, Hoping someone might be able to help me with a mystery noise. It sounds like it's coming from the front right wheel, but I'm not sure on that. It sounds like a metaly jingling/chain dragging sort of noise. It's only present when the car is moving and is worse if the road is bumpy. The...

    Clutch noise when depressed

Mine makes a similar noise when pressing the clutch in sometimes. It's not an every time thing. I have it pegged as the thrust bearing too, but it's not really worth fixing until I have to replace the clutch. 181000km and still going strong on the original!
