    Assuming that the OP is asking about increased clearances caused by normal wear the first symptoms will be increased tappet noise. Other things will follow if the clearances are allowed to get greater. If the misadjustment is caused by incompetent assembly on the other hand - the sky is the limit.

    Yes I do. For a couple of years. I have a Hitachi HT12-1 Turbo that came with the motor - am trying to get the parts needed to replace the turbo bearings and seals etc but this particular turbo seems to be uncommon and nobody in Adelaide has (or can get apparently) the parts.

    To the OP. I replaced a standard TD27 (manual) with a TD27 turbo from a Terrano. The Terrano was auto so I used the original flywheel and clutch and cover plate. Only issue was getting the tacho to work. Ask for more detail if you decide to go that way.

    D21 tough as teak assistance needed

    Just getting back to the thermo fan. You may find that you have an arrangement like the two of mine where the fan clutch does not unbolt from the water pump. You either have to replace the lot or rip the pump apart and reassemble it (means new seals and usually bearings plus special tools).

    Thanks to you all for the welcome. Bought the D21 as a bit of a wreck in mid 2008 - took me a while to get it all working properly but have been driving solidly for a bit over a year. First diesel - have still got a lot to learn.

    You could just install a relay and have the three way switch select which of the two fuel tank sender signals goes to the gauge (as appropriate to the tank selected.)

    I have 2 TD27s. The tacho sensor for the non-turbo is on the front of the timing cover just under the alternator bracket. The turbo motor sensor was on the bottom of the timing cover under the injector pump. They are not interchangeable - ie the non turbo sensor is about 1/4 the number of pulses...
