Whistling/whirring sound when aircon is on

Hi guys,

Sometimes while driving my d22 makes a random whistling/whirring sound.

I can make the noise stop if i turn my aircon off.

Happens at any speed but it seems to be random. Happens more often at the start of a drive.

Does anyone know what this might be?

could just be the idler bearing under load when the A/C turns on. quietens down when it's warm!

I had that happen once something fell down trough the windscreen vents and got caught in the fan .

Try the V drive belt for tension..you can get to it from the top to check

sit at idle and turn the AC on and off manually from the push button to check

Check to see if your car has an electric cooling fan on the radiator (my D40 does). If this is there, it will be turned on with the air conditioning. Hopefully this doesn't have a cracked fan blade, which could result in the fan striking the back of the radiator.

To test if it's in the internal ducting, turn the internal fan on but not the A/C. The fan will still run the same. If the noise is still present with the A/C turned off, then you've probably got some debris in the ducting (or the actual fan). Yes, you'll have to open the ducting to fix it.

This makes sense. If it makes the noise when first turned on this may be the case?
