What is this that has snapped ?

Something has snapped on my right rear wheel ( photo attached )

I'm new too cars for the most part and would greatly appreciate some help identifying what the part is.

And rough cost of the part and for a mechanic too fix aswell as if I should be driving the car long distances with this part broken.

Looks like handbrake cable to me.

Well my handbreak doesn't work so that could be it haha, would you recommend driving with it Hanging like that?
