Hi guys

I am Nicolas from martinique ( french West Indies)

i own a 2013 navara v6 (231hp) with 110000 km
regulary maintained by the only nissan dealer and service on my island since 0 km

i found this thread yesterday and i can find similar items to my story

10 weeks ago i had the full service : oil , filters etc

8 weeks ago and after 700 km i starter my car in the morning with out trouble and 1 minutes and 200 meter after the engine shut down and after several attemps to start the engine, i réalise that i had to call a tow truc to bring the car to the nissan local service.

After a few days the diagnostic was donne the fuel circuit was defuse and after re-primed the engine start, but some Times shut down , they re-primed etc …..

They change the fuel filters, the fuel lever sensor and they are supposed to have check all the fuel hoses but still no change some time the engine start and sometimes need re-primed to start but sometimes no success even with re-primed

When the engine Start everything is ok , no light on dash, no troubles codes on computer , perfecttly running but some Times shut down.

They have made a comparison with another running v6 and the only différence the could notice was on the common rail pressure after a normal shut down, 7 bar on mine and 25 on the other.

Last week they propose me to change the Fuel injection pump , common rail and the 6 injectors for more that 11500€ !!!!!!

No way on a 9 years old car so i have décide to take my car far away from this company and after a hard start without re-primed the engine was able to run more that 30 minutes in traffic jams and highway with all his power and no anormal shut down .

What is wrong on my car ?
 
I would think it's air getting into your fuel system. There's a really easy way to prove it and find it too.

Find your fuel primer bulb and squeeze it a few times until it's firm. Now squeeze it again and again and keep going until you see fuel leaking onto the ground. Now look for where it's coming from - it could be a cracked hose - and you should be good to go.

Long story: these cars have a low-pressure fuel feed. The fuel pump on the engine sucks fuel up from the tank, through the filter and into the pump. This means if there's a tiny leak in, say, the fuel hose at the filter, fuel won't get out - but air will get in. When air gets in at this point, the fuel in the line at that point will drain back to the tank. The engine will happily start but will only have as much fuel as was in the filter and fuel lines down to the pump. After that the pump sucks air (not good for the pump) and the engine stops.

Don't let the pump run dry too much. It really needs that diesel fuel in there to lubricate its internals.
 
Just a quick question here are we talking about the v9x motor
If that is the motor then a different attack on the primer bulb will be needed because under this system they suck the fuel right through they do not pressurise the system

Ahh good point, of course. Separate primer.

Ok, different test (and don't do it too many times): if the car's been running, and you turn it off (say at the shops) and come back to it, no problem starting? Get home, leave the car overnight, get in - problem starting? That's indicative of a fuel leak. Harder to discover the location thanks to a lack of primer.

Do the hoses look good, no external cracking? I'd guess the leak would be up on the high side, probably BEFORE the filter, given that there's a bit of fuel to let the engine start and run a little before it gives up.

Yes V9x diesel 231 hp but I do not have primer bulb and do not have fuel pump for the engine in the tank , there is a fuel pump in the tank but for the fap injector

At this point and after several forum research , here are what I have found
- injection pump failure
- return hose from the injectors ( not sure because I maybe should have fuel leaking around it !!!)
-EGR failure ( already changed 2 times )

Don't scratch the fuel pump straight away. It's an expensive item.

Check that fuel hose first, then reprime the system (it needs a special tool to do that).

i saw that there is a valve one this hose , maybe the trouble
 
Today after re-primed the engine start ,difficult after one week but as usual nothing wrong when the engine is started idle ok etc
After 30 minutes The thing I have notice was an big white smoke from the exhaust, during one minute and disappear
After that the engine what’s still ok for 30 min and I turn it of
Today the car 🚗 is going on a tow truck to a diesel specialist
