I have a 2012 D22 STR with a clunk in the rear end. I hear it when going over bumps/potholes, but as soon as the tray has some weight in it (100kg+), the clunk goes away.

I replaced the suspension around 12 months ago. I'm just trying looking for possible solutions to fix this.

I have also searched through the forums and couldn't really find much.

Thanks.

If you think its the diff go to a vacant car park and do a few slow full lock turns in both directions and listen for noise... Then do the same in reverse, if shes failing you'll hear it...

They brake these little piss ant retaining clips for the plates in the diff and its all down hill from there...
Oil change my man and have a look at what comes out...
There is a post on here about it...

Second hand diffs are plentiful or slap a locker in her! It will be the clutch pack retraining clips, if you catch it early enough and you get it before these bits and pieces start being eaten by the pinion and ring gears you'll save some cash... ugly stuff! Drop the oil, Sol...

Yeah, the search engine is weird here, sometimes things come up and other times I cant even find my own posts... But I do know I took pictures and touched on this awhile ago, so there is something here on it!

check the axle suspension ubolts. make sure they are torqued correctly and not sitting on dirt.
we have had a couple come loose after suspension was done.

Ha, found some pics on the tablet... if she Is gone this will be the issue I bet..

Been a while

I'm fairly sure it's not the diff. I had diff issues in my last car, and it was completely different. Though, it can't hurt to replace the oil, so I might do it anyway.

tweak'e

I will have a look at my suspension. Might even check all the fasteners on it just in case. Could it be body mounts? I know they're prone to failing....

Oh, try shocker rubbers.... derrr, I'm a bit slow! Usually the top ones go..

Have you tried laying under the ute whilst someone rocks and jumps on the ute?

Just gave that go, it all looks and sounds okay. Bit of a creak on the left hand side near the back wheel, but that was about it. I noticed the rubber mounts for the tub to the chassis seem to be rooted. Could that be making the noise over bumps?

jack the ute up by the chassis or tow bar to lift the rear wheels off the ground. give the axle a bit of a shake and you should see if u bolts are loose.

certainly body/deck mounts will do the same. a bit of load in the tray will sit the deck down and it won't rattle so much.

You need to visually inspect every mount and shocker rubber as they do it..one by one. .
Just make sure those top shocker mounts have the bolt/pins in the centre of the shocker eyelet. .. they can flog out and the weight of the ute sitting on the mount will give the impression it's ok as you rick and roll ;) the ute... You really need to jack it up and take the weight off the shock and check them by hand...
