Hello everyone, a question would I need to place a spacer between the rear diff and the driveshaft after doing a suspension lift with the used of add-a-leaf spring or is the angle of center bearing because of the lift causing it to flog out. Center Bearings not lasting long on the truck.

no, thats not what a spacer is for.
how big is the lift?
if its the typical 2" then your centre bearing issues are caused by something else.

the lift is standard 2" via an add-a -leaf, i took looked at it this morning, not remove for a spacer, i took off the drive shaft to see if there is float, none, will continue to checked the drive, going to checked the gearbox mounts, etc.
thanks for the reply

Ahhh your not using those febest bearings are you? Turns out they are shite! Look good and well made but I've had 2 flog out, one after the other!
Brought one through patrol parts and all good...

Now regarding pinion angles, yes, you SHOULD check the angles..... you can buy "shims" to adjust diff angles that go between the diff housing and leaf springs !
Regarding pinion spacers, I believe you should use a spacer between diff pinion and tailshaft when lifting these utes... I've got one, tried with and without and no change on flogging them out, buy genuine or a well known brand... I've done the stinking bearing 3 times this year grrr

hi, have being using aftermarket center bearing, this is the last one being put in, i have taking out the rear drive shaft and inspected it, the first cross by the gearbox isn't moving as smooth as the 2 others, i will change that out and see how it goes.

my 1998 nav after market centre bearing (febest) came apart within a couple of days ,
Good to know, now I know that I'm going back to them and hitting them up for fitting costs x2... I spoke to febest and they said they had no issues with them and no other complaints!
You don't have any photos of yours do you? I'm betting it came apart at the same place.... I'll see if I can find my pics....

Yeah, some are ok, som not, febest looked the goods huh...
Yeah I'd be changing the Universal joint, it may have failed from being old and no lubrication or a bad install... I'd say since you changed the angels and being an old uni joint it ran dry and failed.. You can buy ones that can be greased and I'd go with those type and grease every service..

Main thing to start with is the pinion angels! Make sure they are with in 1° to 2° of each other! Being that you played with the spring pack and added a leaf im bettimg the angles are out... where was the leaf added, top of pack, middle, bottom? Or did you buy a complete lifted leaf spring pack?

You need one of these or an older mechanical type will do.... read up on the subject! It's far to much to write out and really, I shouldn't do It anyway!

YOU ARE PLAYING IN A SPECIALIST FIELD MY MAN, brakes, steering and diffs/tailshafts should never be worked on if you have little idea of what you are doing! Ever seen what happens when you drop a tail shaft or have your diff locked up at 80klms! Naaasty shite indeed...

Me personally, I'd change out ALL the Universal joints, check diff pinion angle whilst out, re fit and check tailshaft angels... if needed, fit leaf/diff shims to roll and adjust diff pinion angels...

Oh, also check for damage to the tail shafts, make sure there are no balance weights missing! And another thing, those bolts from tailshaft to diff pinion should be replaced also... You can only tension bolts down so many times! And im betting LIKE MOST, have been tensioner down over 2 times by now!

Think replacing 4 bolts is over kill! Think again! $10 $20 for peace of mind I say! And remeber, it's not just your family on the road eh...

All the best and make sure you keep on asking questions and research research research... remeber, drive trains, steering and brakes are a specialist field for a reason!
Never stop asking questions here and with mechanics you can talk with in person, this is not a measure twice cut once trade- you measure 3 times and again in these fields ;)
Be safe....

I thank you for the advice, the lift was done almost 4 years ago, I did do my research before I did any work on the truck. Centre bearings weren't lasting, these past 2 years. Will looked to get one of the inclinometer and see what the angles are. Will get the genuine center bearing and the 1st cross.

Ok, last word on this for me... if you can't answer simple questions how are people to help you.... what the fuck is the "1st cross" ? Are you refering to the Universal joints?
I asked you what leaf was fitted, top, middle, bottom.... was the whole pack replaced OR JUST A LEAF! I'm guessing top leaf! Maybe you've added load/towing 1/2 leaf... care to expand !
If you are refering to universals as "cross" ???. I'm hopping your in some 3rd world shit hole and not in Australia! YOU SHOULD not be doing what you are doing....
I'm guessing the leaf pack you fitted was -I'll fitted, they/you never checked diff roll and pinion angles. Like most/all so called 4x4 places do! ARB Australia is currently being remed for doing this sort of shit! Yeahhh fitting late model utes with third world shit products... ask the boys in Gimpie about that huh !
99% of the shit that's employed by places like ARB are nothing more than FITTERS, not even the wrecking yards would take the shit that ends up at ARB Australia ... yup, monkeys fitting parts! Couldn't stand on thier own and end up working for the retards of the 4x4 world..

I'll be looking out for you on Utube....... tailshaft lock up in some third world shit hole at 100ks lol .....

You don't need a $400 center bearing from nissan, you need a mechanic that doesn't want to dry fuck you... wake up..

Unlikely a standard 2" lift would cause this problem. Could be a universal (although that should be obvious, should feel vibration), a bent or unbalanced tailshaft. Or they could have simply been crap centre bearings (assuming nothing going on at either end, diff or gearbox, but that that should also be obvious).

I changed my centre bearing and universals with fleabay cheap ones. Had a slight vibration and the rubber in the centre bearing tore after 2,000 kms. So I took it to a driveline specialist and got it all redone (as they say...buy cheap, buy twice). Centre bearing, universals and tailshaft balance, for slightly less than the price of genuine centre bearing alone .

No doubt they source cheap stuff too, but as specialists who make their reputation and living by repairing such things, figured the parts would be reasonable. At least, without wishing to jinx anything (lol) has been fine for the last 70,000 kms.

Hi, i am putting it down for a bad universal joint, sometimes the vibration is there and sometimes it isn't, feeling it right by floor, like when the center bearing is bad and as i said before the universal is the one that isn't moving as free as the ours, just waiting for the parts stores to open.

Hi, giving an update, I have changed the cross by the gearbox, the vibration has being reduced, however it seems to come back as i drive, still feeling it by the floor, will looked to get the center bearing changed, since it seems to more localized in that area now, I made a looked at the front driveshaft and found the cross down by the diff very stiff. but that change for the front is to get the 4 wd working as it should. Will posted any more finds as I go along.
