Hi,

Just on the off chance - we recently picked up a 2003 DX ST-R D22 3.0L - it has what appears to be the original radio/single cd player, which is showing an error. It has power, obviously, can pop CD's in and out, backlight works...but nothing plays, eg radio or CDs. We do have to replace the aerial, it's MIA, but that shouldn't affect the CDs working? Any hard reset/fuse etc tips to try before we look at replacing it?

Thanks heaps!
Kit

Could be the speakers? They are known to go on these, cheap enough to replace. If you have an auto ranging multimeter and put it on "ac volts" you should be able to check to see if there is a signal at the speakers themselves by unplugging and measuring across the plug terminals while a cd or something playing.

Pretty sure the antenna is what earths the stereo.
Heard this before, but it is something of a myth. Signal grounding (i.e. the aerial) is a different thing to the power supply. The stereo itself is grounded through the stereo chassis, which is grounded where it bolts to the mounting frame.

You can disconnect the aerial entirely and it will still power up, play cd's and even play the radio (although you will get mostly static unless close to a station). Stereos can use some power, wouldn't be a good idea to have the -ve going only through an aerial wire.

Another thought, the error isn't asking for a "code" is it? If these are disconnected from power supply (change of battery for instance) they would normally require a security code before you can use them. Unless you have the original documentation with the code, that will be difficult to sort out.

Another possibility is that it's in cd mode and this function could be faulty? If you push the "band" button it should get it off cd mode.

ps. the best way to think of the -ve re the aerial, is that it surrounds the aerial wire and being grounded protects it from stray or induced voltages/signals. The actual -ve for the stereo will either be through a seperate wire or via mounting the stereo itself.

If you are being asked for a code I think you can probably google some info on how to find it or perhaps a dealer can help, I have a double din unit here that asks for code haven't bothered to find it as not using.
