Navara issues

Hi guys I have just brought a second hand Navara, on the way back home with it, it had a puff of black smoke then lost all power and now it will not start it does turn over but that is all, anyone have any ideas on where to start looking

do a code read, i once bought a car from manhein auctions which blew an engine on way home, they took car back and refunded my money it was only a$4000.00 car
