Several possibilities, almost all requiring the door inner skin to be removed.

The first thing to do is, with your ear close to the driver's door (inside or out, doesn't matter), press the remote so that all the doors operate. Do you hear anything from the driver's door at all?

NO SOUND
1) Could be a faulty connection. Remove skin, check connection, test.
2) Faulty solenoid. Remove skin, replace solenoid, test.
3) The door may not be earthing correctly. Never heard of this before, but it's just a possibility. Connect a test lead to one of the bare screws inside the door and connect the other end to one of the dash mount bolts then test again.
4) Could be a bad connection on the BCM (under the dash, but this is unlikely)) or the cables that run into the door which might have been snagged by something (usually someone that's working on it, and doing the wrong thing!).

SOUND
1) Control arm has come loose. The solenoid should have a screw-based join to the door lock. Ensure that this isn't sliding around (tighten the screw, then test!).

2) Control arm has bent and isn't engaging properly. It might be best to replace it (from a wreck should be ok, the car probably didn't end up in a wrecker because the driver couldn't lock his door). Bending it back might work for a little while but once you start bending metal, it starts flexing even more easily.

Hope that helps.
