Hi All.
Engine cutting out randomly on my D22 ZD30, similar to other threads on here. Engine cuts out without any warning, you only notice when you put your foot down or look at dash.
Most times you just turn ignition off then restart car. Then car will be ok for hours, days, or months. Now though its happening everyday and its much worse with engine sometimes not able to rev above 2000 rpm.

I have checked Neutral Position Switch , Inspected Accelerator and Cruise Control wiring, done TPS relearn and replaced Crank Angle Sensor.
Does anybody know how to test Injector Pump and or wiring to it. Pump or loom to it has been suggested as possible cause.
Any other assistance appreciated.
Thanks Ash.

check for air being sucked into the fuel line. fit a bit of clear tube after the fuel filter.

had the same problems changed the scv yesterday and all seems well so far got it of denso £110

Thanks Damgud987 But what is the scv and where is it located.

I'd have a look at the connectors in the wiring loom coming from the Crank & Camshaft angle sensors. If either of those two are damaged, the engine just randomly cuts out. It will start again after a short while too. Happened to me a few times till I found a loose pin in the Camshaft angle sensor connector. Replaced the connector & hasn't happened since.

Thanks Have replaced Crank angle sensor not sure about cam sensor.

Haven't had fault codes checked Who would do that Auto Elec or Mechanic. Diesel pump specialist said pump wont throw codes.
check them yourself. no need for a reader. instructions around here somewhere.
you most certainly can get injection pump codes. if the pump guy is referring to the chip die issue then that won't have a code, but then again they typically just completely fail rather than just cut out/restart.

Hi tweak'e A diesel Injection workshop has suggested that I replace the large brown relay in fuse box drivers side as they have been know to cause this problem. No luck replaced and problem still there. He has now suggested I look at the two pairs of wires that enter the pump, the lower ones in particular, if the insulation is damaged this can cause the problem.(see pic of pump he has in workshop) mine didn't have insulation damage until closer inspection and the insulation fell off. Cheers Ash.

don't waste your time with this until you have checked for air in the fuel lines.

Hi tweak'e No air in fuel line. Fitted clear hose .Still cutting out an won't rev above 1500/2000 rpm when playing up. Don't know what else to look at.
