Hi everyone, I'm still having engine issues with my navara d40 2007 automatic.

Done around 180,000kms.

Issue is, heavy black smoke on acceleration, little to no power until around 30-40km/h.

ive done these things:
- cleaned maf
- ecu and batt reset
- replaced BCS
- replaced SCV
- replaced turbocharger + actuator
- replaced fuel filter
- replaced transfer sensors
- replaced engine oil + filter
- replaced trans fluid
- upgraded intercooler piping to hard pipes

what else do i try, im confident the injectors are gone, ill attatch some data recordings below of when the engine was at operating temperature below.

also found a fuel leak from under the scv?

i assume frp is fuel rail pressure which sat at 65,00kpa at idle. Is that low?
Should i replace the injector pump firstor injectors?

First thing to try is remove the vac pipe from the BCS - the one that travels over the motor from the vac pump - and connect it to the turbocharger directly. Take the car for a drive, watch the boost levels.

If boost is NOT ok, turbocharger is suspect (may just be actuator)

If boost IS ok, consider electrical issue on BCS, or blockage in vac pipe. Is the BCS hooked up ok? How do the brakes perform? Brake performance is aided by vacuum-assist in the booster, we've had a few people report over the years that the brake booster diaphragm has perished causing a vac leak.

Normally, failing/underperforming turbo results in black smoke (partially burnt). White smoke usually means extreme overfuelling. I had this in mine when my DPF sensors went whacky. I fixed mine by writing to auggie (a member of this forum) who sold me replacement sensors - one of the best buys I did. No grief, simply replace my busted ones and go.

However, if it's the DPF sensors, it won't start smoking straight away.

If you get the engine warm, see the smoke start, turn the car off and then start it up again, how long before the smoke reappears?
 
Hey mate so basically i tried going on a small drive, get heaps of boost once it kicks in.

so boost levels are okay with the gauge as well. Vac lines are good, bcs is clean and turbo flutter is very present

im getting the dpf delete done this week and see if that is also an issue that might change things up. As well as transfer case switches, another issue haha

Hey mate so i tried outting the vac line straight to the turbo, get heaps of boost and turbo sounds/spool.

seems to still struggleu uphill, and heavy acceleration (foot down) still produced alot of black smoke, it is better though.

i think either the manifolds are blocked, or dpf is blocked?
 
Hey be careful where you get the BCS and SCV from I got some on ebay, and they were both dodgy i think the store was Australian performance - something like that, they claim they are recon but both were shite.
 
You will need to get BCS direct from Nissan..........if you are in Perth Nathan at Autofix sells the upgraded SCV
 
You don't mention having touched the EGR ... it's a common cause of black smoke. The EGR valve itself has a small plastic component that controls the actual valve, and we've had a couple of reports of this failing (and the valve isn't cheap). You could get a second-hand from a wrecker, but what most of us do is just block it.
 
I have my gauge reading in psi, not kPa so I'd have to go change it and then drive around a bit (or use an online converter, I guess!).

Normally at idle mine sits somewhere around the 4400psi mark (30,000kPa). It sounds high, but this is a common rail direct injection diesel. It's normal. Gentle acceleration around 10,000psi (about 70,000 kPa), moderate around 15,000psi (just over 100K kPa), hit the gas for the hill in front and I've seen over 24,000psi (165,000kPa) - that's supposed to be the peak, but I've seen it touch 25,000psi. It's not supposed to get that high, but momentarily I guess if the pump winds up to 24K with the rail flowing and the injectors shut off you could see a spike over the pump's max.
 
Hey mate thanks for thw reply, sewms my frp is okay then. I have 2 major issues at the minute, auto transmission doesnt shift, and injectors dont spray evenly. 2 expensive problems 🥲
 
Hi I had the same problem as you a few weeks ago couldn’t find the problem for months came on here and fixed it myself the next day basically I was down in power and loads of black smoke some mornings I would start it and it wouldn’t rev and loads of black smoke on idle then cut out. So I checked all vacuum lines all was good but there is a small vacuum pipe down beside the dipstick for your oil and it was cracked changed it out and no smoke since and loads of power maybe look for that pipe if you haven’t already hope this helps you out.
 
I’ll a picture of it first thing in the morning and send it on to you. But if you have a feel around down the side of the engine drivers side down by the dipstick you’ll find it it’s only a short bit of pipe.
 
There’s a few pictures hope you can see it very hard to find as it’s well in the engine
