    D40 Rear Shackles

This is a little embarrassing but.... Had rear springs replaced by ARB Penrith years ago and they got squeaky rather quickly, injected grease and they settled a little but were still noisy and I just got used to it. Had numerous wheel alignments done and had "professionals" check them out and...

    D40 Keep it simple

Speaking of simple things, mine had trouble starting and it turned out to be the non return valve in the primer bulb. It was passing and draining the fuel system out when left for a while. New bulb and it was all good again.

    D40 overheating

Had same issue when towing that migrated to any time under load and after having done all the usual things it was suggested that it could possibly be the cat converter. I had an after market exhaust fabbed up years ago by an exhaust shop in Sydney and it turns out they used a petrol cat...

    advice on K&n air filters

Used Uni Filters forever. Never had a problem simple to clean and oil.

    D40 intercooler hard pipe replacement

Use a silicone Hump pipe in the line somewhere (57mm) ensures a bit of flex and isolates vibrations. Learnt this the hard way.

    Engine Scan Tool Recommendations

I use a Scangauge II. Reads and deletes codes on the run . Used it for years. Would be lost without it.

    2007 D40 2.5TD Manual

Couldn't say. There is heavy duty available for both.

    2007 D40 2.5TD Manual

Suggest if the gearbox is rumbling (noisy) in neutral with clutch out it's a SMF. Quiet it's a DMF.

    Negative Boost (Vacuum)

Maybe boost reading too high? Possibly boost is reading out of range and off scale so shows as negative and ecu restricting power to return to range. Saw negative boost on scangauge when too much Liqui Moly used in fuel (my bad) and it was boosting its nuts off with readings >25psi. It would...

Turbo Solenoid Valve / Connection of vanes

Owned a supercharged V6 Commodore for a while and a trick with it was to spray lube on the vacuum actuator rod for the blower to keep it from "sticking". Actuator looked identical to the navara so I have made a habit of giving it a squirt with dry lube or similar when I'm poking around under the...

    Not so thirsty

I found the same thing with a Nissan provided chain replacement. It was like the timing had been set correctly for the first time.

    D40 Standard height

There is a page on the RMS website that gives the official figures. I posted it years ago, can't remember it now. Gives the official compliance figures as provided by Nissan for certification.

    D40 steering wheel cover

Used carbon vinyl wrap on mine years ago. Pics in my gallery. Patience, heat gun & asbestos fingers.

    Fuel filter not staying primed

Primer bulb has a non return valve which can get crap in it and it passes back to the tank. New bulb fixed it.

    Replacing sump gasket

Can do on car no probs. It seals with sealant. Bugger of a job to get off without bending the lip. I had a stripped sump plug (Thanks Nissan) so was replacing anyway but original sealant was a cow to get off.

    low oil warning

Funny part is mine did it after a Nissan service years ago and they said they'd fix it. Pretty sure their fix was throw a bit more oil in too.

    low oil warning

Try adding 250-500ml of oil and see if it goes. I get this occasionally after servicing and this fixes it, doesn't seem to make much difference on the dipstick but figure it might be a little crud on the switch internally.

    Retro fitting a reversing camera to a 2012 D40

Pioneer head unit with reverse camera, great sound and safety = no brainer

    Air intake pipe

Sounds cool and looks good. Also smooth inside and not corrugated like original so I imagine it stays cleaner, can only be good. Takes bugger all to fit.

    Rising oil level

Also interesting that VW dodgied the EGR (and got busted) for what purpose? Extending engine life, reducing servicing and improving performance seems the only real explanation. Had mine blanked for 150K. Still running sweet with oil change every 10K.
