Squealing noise only when engine is hot

After replacing the boost solenoid it’s not only hissing for a split second compared from what it did before. I’m thinking maybe it’s a over boosting sound? I have played around with the actuator rod now so maybe it’s out of whack. Is the purpose of the boost solenoid to prevent overboost...

Squealing noise only when engine is hot

When I turn the engine off I can hear a quite buzzing noise from the turbo area, kind of like compression leaking through the cylinders or something along those lines The engine is overall quite powerful but blows a bit of smoke. Uphill on 6th gear it will just drop all power instead of...

Squealing noise only when engine is hot

Hi guys, Is anyone familiar with this noise? Only appears when they engine is really hot and when the turbo is boosting. The turbo is replaced not long ago and I can’t see any exhaust leaks around the egr or exhaust manifold.

Found the issue, the egt pipe that mounts to the turbo was loose.

Gah the issue is still there.. A question about the idle, should it be dead steady? Mine does fluctuates a little bit. Around 50rpm. It doesn’t fluctuate quickly. It sits on a steady idle for maybe 30 seconds the it goes down for 30 seconds then back up again and continues like that. Kind of...

    Another black smoke thread…

I’m happy to give it a crack. After cleaning the intake and putting the vacuum line straight on the actuator it smokes a lot less. However If using the cruise control especially or just driving in 6th gear climbing a small hill, the engine will drop in power (like a minor limp) until you take...

Ramp up boost as shortening the actuator rod? I does blow a little less smoke if I bypass the boost solenoid but the smoke is still there.

    Another black smoke thread…

Alright I’ll take it out and give it a proper clean. The question remains if the build up is what causing the issue or if the issue is causing the build up. Guess I’ll find out once it’s been cleaned. I was hoping to find a chip with a number of settings where the lowest settings would lower...

    Another black smoke thread…

So looking into the intake from where the throttle body mounts it definetly looks like there is some build up inside the intake. I normally always degrease and clean the intakes when replacing cylinder heads. However maybe I did a slack job on this one. It also looks like the egr is blocking...

    Another black smoke thread…

Maybe a random question but I'm looking at getting a common rail chip, more so just to use just for troubleshooting purposes. Now all it seems to do is increasing the fuel pressure. You would think it would cause more black smoke? But does it necessary mean more fuel? or will it be the same...

    Another black smoke thread…

From memory the intake wasn’t all that bad when I took it out to replace the head. I’ve done the valve clearance and swapped injector 4. As well as fuel map reset both through battery method and with injectors disconnected. But she still smokes.. it isn’t crazy smoke, but enough to be annoying...

    Another black smoke thread…

    Yep both tried cleaning and replacing it. I’m a little bit suspicious about my valve clearance: (0.0 in front all) I1: 17 I2: 25 L3: 17 I4: 31 I5: 23 I6: 31 I7: 17 I8: 25 E1: 17 E2: 25 E3 25 E4: 31 E5 22 E6 32 E7 22 E8: 27 Haynes manual refers to intake: 0.020-0.053 Exhaust: 0.030-0.063 with...

    Another black smoke thread…

Thanks I’ll give that a go. Read somewhere that disconnecting the electrical contacts to the injectors then doing a fuel reset might work as well. I only replaced the injectors since I believed they might was causing the black smoke however that wasn’t the case. But yes the injector codes was...

    Another black smoke thread…

I’ve done the accelerator pedal reset multiple times and replaced the scv as well. Is there another way to do a fuel map reset?

    Another black smoke thread…

Still not quite happy with my nav... As soon as I start it I can smell it is overfueling even on idle.. Boost is 20psi, new fuel& air filter, oil change, new fuel pressure sensor, injectors and turbo. Cleaned out the intercooler and havent found any boost leaks. Im worried that the pision...

    P102B

Thanks Tony. I think that injector cleaner funny enough may have solved the issue… didn’t think these products would work. After pouring it in it started to smoke and go down in power a lot more frequently. But after using up the tank and driving on just diesel it seems to have gone away.. I...

Would it be wise to disconnect the egt sensor for a while to see if the issue disappears?

    Pathfinder R51 ST-L 2010 P1828

Hi Guys this is not for a D40 but id imagine that its close to or the same system as on Navara. Im getting intermittent p1828 I i cant work out whats going on.. So far I have replaced transfer case (with new switches) actuator and tcu but the problem is still there. Anyone had this issue before?

The pressure in the exhaust is the same as atmospheric pressure. How is this defined? is there a atmospheric sensor? Or does the egt simply know what that pressure is? i.e just a set value on the egt sensor will trigger the code?
