Hi guys,

So I have been searching the forum lately and couldn't find anything on this topic. (It could be this phone app as my laptop is down). I was just wondering what everyone's 2.5cr engine revs at whilst sitting on 100k. I am aware that the speedo is about 9-10% out on the ute but using my trusty GPS speed mine sits at about 2500rpm. Is this the norm? I am not sure, I have a mate with a ranger that sits under 2000rpm (it is also a 3 litre engine and auto)
 
You cant really compare to other vehicels. Each make and model are different. IE different gear ratio, tyres ect.

Im running 16" tyres on my Nav and at 100km/h i think i sit at 2300rpm. You'll find some navs here will have a slighly different revs due to the types of tyres people run and the speedo inaccuracy.
 
Karlos is right. My D40 at 2,000rpm does 95km/h on standard (255/70R16) tyres and does 97km/h with 265/70R16s. When I drove the STX550 at the 2011 Navara Muster, it was doing 100km/h at about 1700rpm (V6 3.0L TD) - so comparing yours with your mate's 3.0L Ranger is going to be like apples & oranges.

Up-front power partly dictates final drive ratio which dictates the RPM required to do a particular speed, as does developed torque. It's possible to change the final drive ratio to take advantage of a move in torque curve when the engine is chipped - setting the cruise speed (typically around 100km/h) at the point where the torque reaches the top of its dramatic climb.
 
Maybe if you are sitting on 100km/h on the speedo, which is actually closer to 90km/h in actual speed....

I'll have to look at mine next time I'm on the freeway, I thought it was closer to 2750 but I can't remember now...
 
Sorry I miss read my tachometer. it's at the first line after 2000 which is 2250?
My mistake. And yes 100 on my speedo is probs 90 or 93. But I think of that as fuel saving!

P.s wish I had it on 35's. :)
 
Hi All can I throw in a connected question (I hope) what rpm for a 2007 navara when parked. I turn on the engine & intermittently it will cut out while stationary.
 
The diesels all idle around 750rpm.
Thanks Old Tony that’s where mine is at. I changed in new neutral position switch as cruise control had fully stopped working & new issue had arisen limp mode in 3rd /4th gear. The limp mode rectified with new NPS but CC still not working’ that’s when cutting out when stationary started.

I assume yours is a manual ... cruise control (ASCD, p1337 of EC.PDF) relies on:

* ASCD brake switch (the brake pedal has TWO switches)
* Stop lamp switch (also on brake pedal)
* Clutch switch
* ASCD steering switch (to operate the ASCD)
* Park/Neutral Position switch
* Combination meter for vehicle speed
* TCM for powertrain revolution (may be auto only).

Those switches on the pedals come apart easily (and they come off easily). I just twisted mine apart and found black powder inside them and on the contacts. A quick clean and reinstall and my cruise started behaving again.

Thanks again Old.Tony for all the advice. I’ll check as much of these as I can. CC not working I can survive for the moment. But New issue after fitting new NPS Cutting out intermittently when stationary has me confused as well.
 
The NPS shouldn't affect the idling of the engine so I'll assume there's another issue that's arisen.

At this point, I'd check:

* Electrical connections, starting with both battery terminals, then battery negative to engine, ECU to ground. Fusible link condition.
* Alternator output - is it developing > 13V at idle?
* Is fuel filter ok? Check water sensor is properly seated (electrical connector should line up with knurled knob above)
* MAFS is clean and electrical connection to it is ok?
* Has the EGR been blocked off? EGR at idle will kill the engine, if blocking the EGR fixes the problem then your EGR valve may be sticky. You can either leave the EGR blocked (doesn't comply with emission laws) or replace the EGR valve.

There's a good chance it's the EGR, but checking those other things don't hurt one bit.
