I have an STX 550 the intercooler has developed a leak, this will be the second one to replace in 8 years, my mechanic said it's from the condensation, it's around $1000 to replace, any other ideas ?

I do not have a 550

i well placed oil catch can out the front of the motor will help with the oil slickness around the tubing leading to the intercooler

as for a replacement on the 'cooler

TRY CLICKING HERE <----

These seem to be a great investment being all fully welded, bigger, Aussie seller, direct replacement and ultimately cheaper than the quoted $1000..

if your half handy and have a hour free, you shouldn't have any issue replacing it yourself

Two in 8 years isn't bad, they don't last that long normally.
As above, the fully welded one is the best solution. It will take half a day to fit though.

Thanks that's great news, will definitely invest in one of those.

thats funny.
its simply because they are cheap intercoolers so heat and vibration wrecks them. common issue across a lot of vehicles.
One of your members replied with a positive comment on an Oz made intercooler that is fully welded, it's cheaper than the genuine and better, I'll be fitting one of those, this is my 3rd D40 the other two were 2.5s and one was chipped, never had a problem with them it's only the V6 that has has issues with the intercooler.

they all have issues. plenty of nissan models have issues, same with toyota etc.
a good aftermarket is the way to go. factory coolers are made to a price and it a matter of time before they fail, but often people don't notice.

I am on my 4th intercooler, the first 3 lasted 40,000 km each. The current one is from HPD and is welded all round( not pressed/crimped tovether like the OE version) fits in the same hole and is a bit bigger. Works well.
