Brought a d22 a few weeks back and a couple of days ago the check engine light came on and it has been intimitent since when I turn it on, have noticed in third gear sometimes it can have a bit of a moment where it doesn’t want to go, today when I got into third gear it felt like it had no power at all and was like that the rest of my drive home. Any ideas? Cheers.

Two ways of figuring out what's wrong.

First: get the code from the ECU. Either a mechanic can do it, or use a bluetooth ELM327 OBD2 adapter and an app like Android Torque. The code will point specifically to the error the ECU has detected. No guarantee that it's perfect, but it's a good start.

Second: explain all of the symptoms. Any smoke? What colour? Any odd sounds that weren't there before (screeching/squealing/sucking/whining etc)? Is it only doing it in the one gear or all gears?

Will get the code checked.

No wierd noises that I have noticed and haven’t seen any smoke. Felt fine until I put it in third gear then it became real sluggish and then was like that in all the gears for the rest of my drive

It would be worth trying to drive it and in a particular gear, slightly lean on the gear lever one way then the other and see if the problem goes away.

If it does, it's likely your Neutral Position Switch on the gearbox. It's a known irritation.

I just started it and did what someone else said to diagnos it by turning the heat button on and put it in each gear and see if it went back to normal idle. All gears stayed at the heat rev.

Watched for smoke on startup but nothing to be worried about

+1 for the neutral position switch.

Lots of posts like yours across the net, most people seem to get by if they simply unplug it. Not sure I'd be happy doing that, but lots of people do.

I have now replaced it and the heat switch trick works but the engine light won’t bugger off and it’s still in limp mode most of the time. Do I need to get the engine light cleared?

what engine do you have?

codes can be read manually. instructions are around here somewhere or download the service manual which has it. (it will vary depending on engine you have).

Buy a cheap OBD2 reader & check it for codes. That should give you a starting point. Don't forget to clear them when you've noted them down.

Failing that, make sure you know the radio PIN, then disconnect the battery for a while. That "should" clear the codes & CEL. If the CEL comes back on, you have other issues.

if you have zd30 a lot of code readers won't work on them as it uses nissan consult not OBD2.
doing it manual is very easy and only requires a thin bit of wire.

Hi Choppahtu,

To put it mildly, I’m no expert, but 0707 is the post converter O2 sensor, with a slow response fault.
no, these are diesels not petrol's.
Nah I have a zd30. I did bridge the ports again and got 0707 this time but cannot find what it means
0707 is the dreaded failure to achieve timing.
wide range of causes, from blocked up fuel filter, sucking air into the fuel lines, air trapped in injection pump, worn injection pump, incorrectly installed crank sensor, possibly even due to a the scissor gear not being locked during removal.

The engine light first came on the day after it was at the mechanics getting a oil change and all the filters changed as I had just brought it and I also gave it a full tank that day and after I filled it up the light came on, could any of these have caused the light to come on?

yes.
common one is not changing the bottom oring on the fuel filter. also common for the primer to stuff out. easy way to check is to fit a bit of clear fuel line and look for bubbles of air in the fuel.
i've also had the wrong fuel filter used due to a certain manufactures website being incorrect.

Will take it in to the local Nissan dealer I have checked everything to do with the fuel and can’t find anything wrong, hopefully it’s just a code after being at mechanics
