I have a 12 plate v6 and I'm looking at changing, I love the v6s , I've had 3. I want people's opinions on the np300 as I've been looking at them. Someone said the 16 and 17 autos are OK but after that they are rubbish. Does anyone have any info on why they are not reliable. Its either another v6 or a np300. Any help would be much appreciated.

When you say V6...do you mean the VQ petrol?.....or the V9X diesel?

I haven't owned the NP300 series, so have no direct experience.

But if I was shopping I'd be considering a few things....

- Nissan seems to have produced a "work in progress" with the NP300. There's a lot of revisions & versions (mostly around the rear suspension). This could be viewed as good or bad.

- Lots of owners have failed oil seals. Crankshaft & gearbox. Some are fixed under warranty or recall I think.

- 2.3 Liter twin turbo is a complex engine. It makes good numbers from small capacity. That might be a good thing (fuel economy) or a bad thing (longevity).

- Very, very capable off road I believe...??

- Our local Nissan dealer does not have a good reputation for helping after the sale. Rude, indifferent etc (but yours could be excellent).

All my v6s were Outlaws with diesel engines, very reliable and powerful, as many have said the engines bulletproof. Im retired now so don't need to use for work just fetching and carrying taking kids to and from school. Carrying odd bits but never " working" as such. I know I will notice a difference from a 3l to a 2.3l with power but my main concern is all the stories I've heard about the np300 being unreliable, particularly the later models, the 16 and 17 are supposed to be ok. My v6 doesn't have the " bling" like digital radio and stuff that the np300s have which I'd like but it's probably better to stick with what you know.
