I went to adjust my belts today and who the hell tightens the bottom mounting bolt on the alternator so frigging tight. It is factory as I can see the paint on the rear nut and thread. is there a knack to this as I could not loosen the bolt. Apart from not having any room as well, what a PIA.
 
Guessing you have the 2.5 (which I know nothing of)? As there is no belt adjustment on the zd30 that I'm aware of (it's an automatic tensioner).

Surely you can rig a socket/fittings/extensions or spanner on it in a way that extends leverage? Then again there are bolts on mine that I have had to make my own spanner (cutting the spanner and welding to lengths of rod/bar and so on), but it's a sad day when an alternator bolt requires this sort much effort.
 
I can get to it with a short ratchet spanner, 3/8" 14 mill socket but it is tight as all hell. I have stated to round the nut off as I am unable to get a good grip on it. There is no need to have it that tight. It is ridiculous the amount of torque that is need m to loosen it. I will have a other look tomorrow and maybe try something from up top.
 
I couldn't undo mine, gave it to a mechanic to do. I was told afterwards that a breaker bar plus extension and 17 new curse words that they invented during the task saw it removed.
 
So the YD25 has "old style" belt tension management via the position of the alternator & pulley?

My old Falcon has a spring loaded tensioner that is a breeze to push back for belt removal.
Is there nothing similar on the Navs ??
 
Nope. 3 tensioners, Alternator then another for the Steering pump, and then the AC compressor. The last 2 are the same so you adjust via a pully that is on a threaded bolt. The alternator is the pisser. Ther is no room to get to the nut at the rear. The front is a flat plate to stop rotation of the through bolt. PITA.
 
To do all the belts it's a pain but easy once you know what you need.
Power steering belt needs the idler pulley loosened then adjust via tension bolt. Multiple extensions make it easy to tighten the adjuster bolt. 2 foot breaker bar and socket make access to the pulley bolt easy. Same set up for AC .
AC belt is easier from underneath.
Alternator belts require the bolts to be loosened then adjuster bolt tightened up. I use a ratchet spanner on the alternator and adjuster bolts.
