Hey all,
Ok a little intro about me. For the best part of 15 or so years, I was a Patrol owner and loved the ZD30s. Had to sell 6 years due to living in the middle of Melbourne (dump) and have been stuck in a little rice burner since. Got out of Melbourne after 5 years, best thing I ever did. Was just doing the usual online thing and jumped onto Grays Casino, er I mean Auctions and came across a 2010 ST-X with 230,000km. I figure if I can get it for a certain price I can still put 2 or 3k into and be well ahead. Pulled the trigger and got it. For about a week I was tossing up whether to drive it back or throw it on a truck and after a few quotes ($$$$) I drove.... well limped it home. I was more than surprised it made the 400km home.
After a proper inspection, there is a little bit of work that needs to be done. The compression and leak down test came back good which is a positive start. Got an airbag code which was a faulty control unit. The oil that was in it was sludge, the air filter was completely black. I will do a double oil flush to get what ever gunk I can out of it and then a UV dye test to see if any of the sludge or carbon was sealing up a leak There's an issue with the EGR according to the scanner, I'll pull that today and have a look. Maybe the previous owner installed blanks.
I love working on these things, part of the reason I bought it from the auctions was knowing there would have to be work done. I can get a used engine for pretty cheap so might be worth grabbing and rebuilding it for a future swap. I'm getting ahead of myself hahaha.

Welcome aboard!

I don't think the 2010 cars had flow detectors on the EGR valves, but they certainly did know if they were unplugged!

If it's an auto, consider either checking the radiator (you could read that as "replace the thing" if you like) or at the very least disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the radiator and install a separate external transmission oil cooler in front of the other gear up front. This avoids the nasty situation where the transmission cooler (which is inside the radiator) starts leaking into the coolant, and the coolant starts leaking into the transmission oil cooler, which contaminates both engine and gearbox.

The Nav is a manual. The Clutch, gearbox, and transfer case are all in good order. I started reading about the chassis rust issues that the D40 had. I had no idea this was an issue with the Spanish build. Bore scoped and checked everywhere along the chassis but found nothing inside or out.
I'm keen to take it for a test run but I purchased it without plates so a bit of a risk of getting fined. I think I'll just book it in for a blue slip and they can tell me of any other issues that need to be fixed for rego.
