Can someone please tell me the clearance settings as I'm struggling to find them.

I need measurements when engine is cold as it's slightly pulled apart.

I'm a mother trying desperately to fix my boys first car.

Oh sorry- valve clearance. Yes it is only on start up. Have posted again with problems if you can find it.

Thanks Muchly

The service manual gives valve clearances for the QD32 only when the engine is hot, as 0.35mm (0.0138 inches) for both intake and exhaust valves. It doesn't say what the clearance should be when the engine is cold.

I understand the QD32 is the old style adjustable tappets so that makes it easier.

The first time I removed the valve cover on my 2.5 diesel YD25 I was surprised to see the cams run directly onto the valve like my motorcycles. There are no adjustable rocker arms. A shim retaining bucket sits on top of the valve stem with a replaceable shim under the bucket to give the required clearances.

I've done 4 cylinder 4 valve head sports bike shims many times and it's a detailed process. First you measure and record the clearances. If any are out of specification the cams have to be removed and the offending shim replaced with a thicker or thinner item. The existing shim thickness is recorded so the required thickness of the replacement can be calculated.

I have a protected spreadsheet that makes the calculations easier. Providing the input data is correct it will give the correct answers. I'm a Civil Engineer so my algebra is pretty good but I had it checked and reviewed by another Engineer because the output must be right.

If anyone wants the spreadsheet you're welcome.

Hi Angie
Did you manage to get the valve clearances sorted out?
Has that eliminated the white smoke issue you mentioned in your other thread?
