Hi, I have a slow oil leak slowing dripping from the bottom of the radiator. Wondering if anyone knows from where this could be coming from? Leaking hose etc
Thanks

Thanks guys.
But why does it leak oil? Its just to cool the air isnt it? Is this residual oil from the EGR process?
I checked the engine oil, and have not lost any or very little.

It's all about crankcase ventilation. Instead of just venting the oily air to the atmosphere, the crankcase is ventilated into the engine air intake.
This means that there is a thin film of engine oil in the air intake pipework, including the intercooler.

^ Exactly that. If you want to remove some of the oil, add a catch can in the engine bay somewhere - but you'll never get rid of it all.

I should probably note at this point that even if you do catch ALL of the oil, the remaining gas is mostly exhaust gas which will inhibit combustion, so if you really want to squeeze an extra bean out of it, direct the catch can output through a filter to the atmosphere. Please make sure you don't allow oil to drop to the road surface, it can cause issues for vehicles with fewer wheels.

Replacing the intercooler will never solve the problem.

The better thing you can do is to take out every year and have it cleaned. But since there is a leak you need to have it sort out. Other wise you will loose power

I had 2 replaced under warranty at 40 and 80 thousand. When the last one went at 120K I went HPD and it seems to go harder but I haven't dyno'd it.

My experience is 100% identical! Definitely a bit more go with the HPD.

Thanks guys. Yeah i will get it replaced very soon. Its done 240ks so its time( assuming its the original).
From what i've read and seen a new one should give it more power

Be careful when getting catch can fitted, my father did me a favour when he borrowed my 550 and got one fitted, along with aftermarket intercooler, and the people who fitted it not only plumbed it up backwards but kinked the hose out of the crack case - two rear main seals and 1 front crankshaft seal later before the fault was found- I still think it is a good idea but check the work carefully, hose kink was hard to see.

Well said, 'Old Tony' the 2 wheel community appreciate the thoughts
