Hi Guys

There is a 2010 D40 YD25 Navara that looks like it needs a rebuild.

A heater pipe at the back of the engine blew, resulting in a coolant leak. It was undetected and subsequently the motor badly overheated. After a tow, a mechanic suspects a head gasket rebuild and a cost of approx $6k.

Prior to going ahead with the first mechanics quote, can anyone make any Perth based recommendations of shops that specialize in the D40s for the purpose of a rebuild?

Thanks
Steve

Well that's a little more than we paid.

Suspected cracked head (I still haven't checked the old one, but no reason to not trust the mechanic). Provided a new head to them, they installed, charged me about $2100 and the head cost me about $1300 (shipped). Also replaced the thermostat and coolant pump at the same time (price of these and a load of coolant included in that $2100).

These guys were NOT Navara specialists - they were your average town mechanic. No longer "average" in my eyes, they're a significant cut above (Inwood Motors, Bathurst NSW for those interested). I know that you can't get to these guys, but it does mean you might not have to depend on a Navara specialist.

As long as they replace the head bolts and gaskets and give the timing chains a good look over (plus the tensioners) they shouldn't do a bad job.

Unless you want to give your first born or a kidney........isn't many in Perth
