Well this chain is past it used by date.

It does explain the slapping when I first start it up and the cam timing being slightly out on the diagnostic tool. When I get back home I’ll change out everything for a duplex setup. Work has kept me away from home for months so a timing/valve/gasket job that should of taken a a day or 2 has...

Look's like i'll be pulling the head.

Finally getting somewhere with this thing. Time is short though. I pulled the head and stripped everything. Found the valves didn't seal properly and the head gasket was leaking a tiny bit of coolant into the pistons. The pistons, walls, rings etc were all good. The head had no warpage, just...

Well this chain is past it used by date.

After doing a gasket job I was going to install the old chain until I saw this. I don't remember it being this loose when I pulled it out but didn't really take much notice.

Water in fuel or electrical failure after offroading?

Check your battery terminals are not loose or corroded.

Hey Phunk, The Nav has 238000k's. I was expecting to put at least a couple of grand into it for the price I got it for. I'd say you are right about the valves, I think the clearances might be out of spec and seals need to be done. I am tossing up between just doing the valve seals and...

Cheers for the reply Barney, I'll do another compression test tomorrow just to be sure but from what I have read, everything is pointing towards burnt valves or bad timing being no change between the wet and dry test. That shit that flew out of cylinder 2 I am guessing was a heap of carbon...

Hey all, I bought a Nav (2010 2.5 D40 Spain) a few months back, it was blowing a fair bit of white/blue smoke with no power, I got it for cheap. Replaced the turbo which was seized, glowies (3 out of 4 were buggered), MAF, Vac lines, BCV, rad hoses, cleaned EGR and a few other sensors and...

    The old “ZD30 Won’t Start”

Cheer Tony, Didn't know he had a website. The last time I ordered from him it was a phone call after finding him on a Patrol forum.

The very short eBay turbo story.

Hey all, Had to throw this up here. So recently I bought a Turbocharger from eBay (SLTurbo brand) for $575 which I thought was an ok deal, has a 2-year warranty. It is the turbo with the electronic actuator so a bit higher in price than the Chinese GT2056. The turbo arrived in 3 days which was...

Boost control Valve/solenoid question..... or two

It is electronic actuation controlled by the PCM. It's the black box on the turbo . From what I have found it was on the D40 2.5 between 2010 - 2013. It even has a shlong.

Boost control Valve/solenoid question..... or two

Thanks, Manning. I thought I had it figured out but nope. I'll have a look at the engine number tomorrow, maybe someone swapped it out at some point from a different year/model. A quick recap: The Nav had lost power and blew smoke. Searched for leaks as I thought it might be a blown gasket...

Boost control Valve/solenoid question..... or two

All good, have figured it out. Spanish built (VSK) after 01/2010 has this setup from what I could find. Unsure if they are interchangeable. Time to order the right part.

Boost control Valve/solenoid question..... or two

Hey all, Another dumb question from yours truly. I ordered a boost control solenoid for the 2010 2.5 D40 MT and have an issue. The plan is to swap out all vacuum-related parts with the new turbo install. The usual place that most posts and pictures I have seen including the Gregory's service...

Should I rebuild this turbo, your thoughts?

Hey all, Just pulled the seized turbo from the Nav. Everything I read says to remove stone guards, remove cat, remove wheel arch liner, drop engine oil and coolant. I did none of this. Used some hose clamping tools and removed it all from the engine bay. Some long socket extension bars and a...

    No boost. Why ?

Just be aware that CCT warranty is void if you install it yourself (unless you are a qualified mechanic). Not sure of the legality of this.
