Mine does the same at idle its normal but once it hits solid boost and registers upto about 5 psi the needle shouldnt shake anymore. How much boost you got? Mine maxes at about 16

Yeah mine stock, havent blocked the egr valve yet (something i might get around to today) runs 15psi most of the time and peaks around 16 - 17

Its user preference really, they all do pretty much the same things these days. I prefer GME but i have a uniden hand held too that is really good

Yes you can use anything really to block it off. although you might be cutting it a tad thin using 1.6 on the exhaust side (it may warp wi5th the heat) but it could be right. Just go into any welders workshop and ask em for a bit of scrap 3mm mild steel or something and they should just give it...
